Hillary Clinton Models Some Surprising New Footwear

Hillary Clinton is now a shoe model—well, at least for Katy Perry. Perry posted a photo on her Instagram Monday night promoting her new shoe line, and got a little help from the former presidential candidate, who modeled her namesake “The Hillary” pump. Clinton showed off the pink version of the suede shoe, which features a clear block heel filled with golden stars and moons. Its description on the Katy Perry Collection Web site encourages wearers to “step in and reach for the stars” for the price of $139.

Clinton isn’t known to take risks with footwear; however, she has been experimenting more with bold fashion choices following the election. Her recent public appearances have been marked by bright, patterned shirts, statement jewelry, and eye-catching colors (and even a new haircut). Wearing shoes designed by a pop star feels like a natural next step in Clinton’s edgier style evolution.

She isn’t the only woman who's gotten her own Katy Perry namesake shoe in the singer’s new collection, which debuted in February. Each shoe in the line is named after a woman Perry knows or admires. “I chose some of my favorite girlfriends and my female family members and named all the shoes after them. So they’re all getting their own shoe, I guess, so that’s really fun,” she told People in February. “I tried to pair the shoes that best represented their personality. I didn’t necessarily shape the shoe after them, but I decided to make the shoes more name specific in the end.”

Other women who have gotten the Katy Perry shoe treatment include Allison Williams, Sia, Lena Dunham, and Caitlyn Jenner. However, only one presidential candidate has gotten her own shoe and doubled as its model.
