"High School Musical: The Musical: The Series" Season 2 Will Take on "Beauty and the Beast"

It's a tale as old as time.

It's official — we now know what musical *High School Musical: The Musical: The Series* will be taking on for season 2, and it's a classic.

On Feb. 5, Disney+ shared the exciting news that the meta High School Musical-based series will do a production of Beauty and the Beast in its second season. And there's even a sneak peak of what the musical will sound like, since the HSM series cast did a piano rendition of the musical's title song. In the clip, they sing about the tale as old as time before rejoicing with a yell, "season 2, baby!" Safe to say they're pretty excited to be doing the iconic show.

"The outpouring of love and support for season one has been incredibly exciting, and I’m thrilled that the Wildcats are putting on 'Beauty & The Beast' in season two," said creator Tim Federle in a press release. "It was one of the first Broadway shows I ever saw, when I was 14, and it's got all the perfect metaphors for the high school experience: Do people judge me for how I look? What is true love? Will I achieve the future I dream of? And, perhaps most importantly, it's got dancing forks."

Now that we know what music we can expect to hear come season 2 (along with some likely original songs, like in the first season), we just have to wait to hear more about the fresh drama that will go down between the characters, and what easter eggs might be in store for fans of the original series.

As Sofia Wylie told Teen Vogue back in November, “We pay homage and we have references to the original movie but it's so different. We're able to create a show that is so much a part of my childhood but it's also going to be a part of my adulthood, and it's also going to be the way for a new generation too.”
