High School Cheerleader Jumps Off Homecoming Parade Float To Save Choking Child

This time it’s the crowd who’s cheering for Texas high school cheerleader Tyra Winters.

Not only can she tumble, stunt, and cheer with the best of them, but now Winters can add lifesaver to her college resume.

The teen was sitting on a float with the rest of her squad and waving to onlookers during Rockwall High School’s homecoming parade last month when she noticed a woman yelling for help. It was a desperate mother whose young son was choking on a piece of candy, KTVT reports.

Winters reportedly sprang off the moving float without hesitation, rushed over to the little boy, and performed the Heimlich maneuver until the candy dislodged.

“Her courage and kind spirit saved the boy,” a proud Rockwall Independent School District proclaimed on its website. “Thank you, Tyra!”
