Hesperia Sheriff’s deputies and Las Vegas police recently arrested three people on suspicion of fatally shooting 24-year-old Donta Hayes at a park in Barstow last month.

Those arrested include James Hampton, 33, from Adelanto, Allison Hampton, 34, from Barstow, and 39-year-old Rasheed Ahmed Bey from Victorville, Barstow Police officials reported.

Hesperia and Las Vegas arrests

Barstow Police said that at approximately 1:42 p.m. on June 2, Detective Helms received information that sheriff’s deputies in Hesperia conducted a traffic stop and arrested Allison Hampton and Bey for warrants.

Detectives Helms and Sanchez responded to interview the suspects, who were later booked at the High Desert Detention Center in Adelanto on suspicion of killing Hayes, who lived in Barstow, according to police.

Bey remained at the HDDC, with bail set at $1 million. He is scheduled to appear Thursday in Victorville Superior Court, sheriff's officials said.

Allison Hampton remained at the West Valley Detention Center in Rancho Cucamonga, with bail set at $1,5 million. She is scheduled to appear Tuesday in Victorville Superior Court, booking records show.

Barstow Police said that at approximately 6:38 p.m. on June 3, Detective Sanchez was notified that North Las Vegas Police Department officers had located James Hampton and arrested him without incident.

During that time, officers located a handgun in James Hampton’s possession at the time and collected it as evidence. He was also booked on suspicion of killing Hayes.

The shooting

Police said that at approximately 6:27 p.m. on May 13, officers were dispatched to a shooting in the area of Lillian Park in the 900 block of Villafana Street, near Barstow City Hall.

Upon arrival, officers discovered that a man, later identified as Hayes, had been shot and was transported by friends to Barstow Community Hospital.

Hayes had sustained multiple gunshot wounds to his neck and chest and was later pronounced dead by medical personnel, police said.

In May, police said the shooting scene was in the 300 block of Adele Drive, adjacent to the park. At that time, they learned that Hayes and his male friend argued with two other males in a silver Dodge Charger in the middle of Adele Drive.

The males were inside the Dodge when they confronted Hayes and his friend. During the dispute, the passenger produced a handgun and shot at Hayes multiple times, police officials stated.

The driver also produced a handgun and shot at Hayes and his friend. The two suspects fled from the scene in the vehicle, according to police.

Barstow Police did indicate if Hayes' friend was hit by gunfire or was injured.

A deputy from the San Bernardino County Sheriff-Coroner’s Division responded to the scene as well as Barstow Homicide Detectives. They assumed the investigation and identified the suspects as both Hamptons and Bey.

Officials were also able to obtain arrest warrants for all three suspects.

Police ask anyone with information about the incident to contact Detective Sanchez at 760-255-5132 or the Barstow Police Department at 760-256-2211.
