Here's Why This Snoop Dogg T-Shirt Costs $1,000

There are plenty of reasons to like Snoop Dogg: his early work with Dr.Dre, his impressive solo career, his delightful personality, his sporting equipment, his fierce loyalty to struggling chicken ‘n’ waffles chains. But why would someone spend $1,000 to have his face cover his or her entire torso? Does the shirt come with a week’s supply of joints hand rolled by Snoop Dogg? Do you get the opportunity to watch three hours of Planet Earth with Snoop himself?

No and no. The shirt is actually a product of luxury streetwear-inspired label Vetements. Along with creating a $330 DHL shirt, a $1700 Star Wars skirt, and whatever this thing is for $330, the brand manufactures in insanely small quantities to keep supply low and demand high.

But, as Complex points out, this particular shirt is expensive as hell because it’s based on a vintage Snoop Dogg shirt. The photo itself is an outtake from a Dan Winters cover shoot for Vibe, which Death Row Records used for merch back in 1993. To make the tee and not get sued, Vetements had to pay to license the image. Here’s the comparison to the '93 original:
