The third season of Netflix's hit show You just hit screens today, and fans are already clamoring for more. With 10 new episodes to binge, a lot is going on with Joe and Love. ICYMI, season 3 follows the pair with a dark past as they embrace parenthood in the suburbs for the first time.
While you're probably already familiar with Joe, played by Penn Badgley (of Gossip Girl fame), plenty of other new faces just joined the series. But the season 3 premiere featured a dedication to an actor all the way back from season 1: Mark Blum.
Here's everything to know about Mark, including his Broadway career, and why the show's creators included a nod to him this season:
Mark's character played a starring role in season one.
Season one saw Joe employed as a manager at Mooney's a bookstore in New York City. The bookshop is a big location for Joe, seeing as it's where he meets Beck, a girl he quickly becomes obsessed with. Mark Blum played Mooney, the owner of the bookstore (and Joe's boss-slash-father-figure) who's somewhat oblivious to Joe's dark side.
Mark passed away in March 2020.
Sadly, Mark passed away in March 2020 due to complications from COVID-19. He was 69 years old, according to CNN. At the time, friends and fellow actors and actresses shared their favorite memories of Mark.
Actor Zach Braff said he "could not have been a kinder human being" who was a "wonderful" actor. And Sex and the City alum Cynthia Nixon remembered his performances as "unfailingly deep, subtle, hilarious and moving in equal measure," per CNN.
Mark, who regularly starred in productions with Playwrights Horizons, was honored in a Tweet from the theater company:
"With love and heavy hearts, Playwrights Horizons pays tribute to Mark Blum, a dear longtime friend and a consummate artist who passed this week. Thank you, Mark, for all you brought to our theater, and to theaters and audiences across the world. We will miss you."

Mark's impressive acting career took him from the stage to the screen.
Mark's acting career began in the 1970s after he graduated from the University of Pennsylvania. He eventually worked his way up to the Broadway stage, starring in productions like Lost in Yonkers, The Best Man, and The Assembled Parties, and the revival of Twelve Angry Men.
In the 1980s, Mark switched to the silver screen. He is best known for his roles in Desperately Seeking Susan alongside Rosanna Arquette and Madonna and in Crocodile Dundee. You might also recognize him from recent roles in plenty of hit TV shows, including Succession and Mozart in the Jungle.
You can see Mark as Mr. Mooney in You season 1, and catch up on all 10 episodes of You season 3 right now on Netflix.
