5 Reasons Why Robert Pattinson's "The Batman" Is Going To Be Amazing

If you're like me you have already seen the new trailers for The Batman several times over at this point. Ever since the film was announced years ago and was attached to Ben Affleck, fans were excited to see a stand-alone Batman movie. Of course, then Ben Affleck dropped out of not only directing but starring as the Caped Crusader, and the task of directing was then given to Planet of the Apes' Matt Reeves, but still, people were then left asking who will be the new Dark Knight of Gotham City.

This is when the internet was divided as Robert Pattinson was announced to play Bruce Wayne and people who had not seen him in anything other than the Twilight movies were enraged. Understandably, if you hadn't gotten a chance or taken an interest in his smaller independent movies you'd never have known the range of this guy's acting. I'll be honest — for me, I had my reservations but mainly due to his stature and physical look, as I thought Ben Affleck looked more the part. Though after hearing Matt Reeves speak on the direction he was taking with the film, I was back on board as I knew he was going back to a younger Batman, and there was going to be more of a focus on the detective side of Batman we haven't gotten to see in recent years.

So I figured for anybody on the fence, let me give you a few reasons why you should spend your hard-earned money on seeing this movie, and if you're a Batman fan, why this movie might be one of the best of them yet.
1.The world's greatest detective
We have seen so many iterations of Batman, but none have really explored the genius detective that he is. We've seen that he's a badass with his hand-to-hand combat, which we also seem to get plenty of in this film, but his crime-solving skills have been mainly put to the side for most of the films we have watched as of late. He is supposed to be known as the world's greatest detective, but for whatever reason, directors hadn't leaned too heavily into that part of Batman.
Enter Matt Reeves
His refreshing take on the Caped Crusader is bringing a gigantic smile to fans' faces, as he recently stated in an interview with MovieMaker Magazine, “This idea of a place that is corrupt, and you try to swim against the tide in order to fight against it and make a difference, is quintessential Batman. And at the center of those noir stories is almost always the detective, right? And that’s why he is the world’s greatest detective. And so this story is, in addition to being almost a horror movie, and a thriller, and an action movie, at its core, it’s also very much a detective story. It’s very narrative.” The fact that we're seeing a younger version of Batman, who is exploring the aspects of investigating a crime and figuring out the clues that have been left behind and in this case by one of the most puzzling clue givers in the Riddler, makes for a great crime drama that should leave us all on the edge of our seats.
2.Longest Batman movie so far

OK, so before you start to lose it over the runtime, let me explain why I think it's a good thing that The Batman has such a long runtime. I believe that if the runtime is going to be this long it is so Matt Reeves has the ability to establish his Gotham different from everybody else's version. Remember that this is a year 2 Batman, who is still very green to his vigilante ways, and this is Gotham, which is rife with corruption as it's always been. But besides certain shows like Gotham, we've never gotten to see on ground level what the world of Gotham truly is like.
Considering that there are several shows that are going to be in the same DCEU as the movie, I would imagine a lot of the groundwork will be made in this film.
I also believe since this film will be more detective heavy, the runtime will allow the film to focus on Batman running around the city trying to figure out the Riddler's clues and motives for his next victims while also seemingly finding out more of the secrets that the underbelly of Gotham have kept hidden for so long. So more world-building and more storytelling, in the end, means a longer runtime, which for me is exactly what I want in a Batman movie — make sure to go to the bathroom early and maybe go for the medium drink instead of the extra-large.
3.Amazing cast
Then we have the likes of Zoë Kravitz as Selina Kyle, aka Catwoman, Jeffrey Wright as James Gordon, Andy Serkis as Alfred Pennyworth, Paul Dano as The Riddler, and Colin Farrell as The Penguin.
I mean, come on, you can't tell me that these names aren't some heavy hitters when it comes to not only acting but adding to a thriller like this one is supposed to be. The fact that we have all these incredible actors together in a film for a new trilogy of Batman films is something that when we look back at, we will wonder how this wasn't done sooner.
4.Batman Horror Movie?
The tone of this movie will be the darkest of any of the Batman films. With Matt Reeves stating the story to be almost like a "horror movie," you can imagine the tense moments of the film making people hold their breath to see what might be happening next, or who will be the Riddler's next victim. It's this approach to The Batman that might not be as easy for kids to watch but will grab the attention of all the teens who are allowed to go to the movies without their parents around.
I've heard that the comparison of this film to the likes of David Fincher's Seven, which was an amazing crime drama, combined with the action that Matt Reeves has shown in his trilogy of Planet of the Apes, will make for one of the most unique takes on Batman that we have ever seen.
No disrespect to any of the Batman films before this one; they've all been great in one way or another. This one will stand out on its own but might be the one to do the best in the box office and do the best in audiences' minds. I guess only time will tell.
5.Ties to the HBO Max Penguin series

It seems that the WB is fully invested in the world of Gotham that Matt Reeves has created. It was quickly announced by the studio that we would be seeing a spinoff from The Batman movie on HBO Max last year, and close to the end of the year it was confirmed that the show would revolve heavily around Colin Farrell's Oswald Cobblepot's, aka Penguin's, rise in the underworld of Gotham.
Now yes, we did see something like this already with Fox's Gotham, but with Matt Reeves executive producing and overseeing the creative aspect of the show I can imagine that his take will be one that fans might enjoy more.
Especially with the likes of Colin Farrell playing the lead and most likely with appearances from Jeffrey Wright's James Gordon, who is rumored to be on the show as well. I'm sure the success of the show will be heavily reliant on the success of the movie, but with rumors estimating a pretty big box office opening weekend I can't imagine that this show doesn't get all of Warner Brothers' support.
