One year ago, Lee Isaac Chung's Minari made waves at the Sundance Film Festival, ultimately nabbing the Grand Jury Prize for its compelling coming-of-age tale. Now, the A24 film continues to grab the attention of critics, with its recent (and controversial) Golden Globe nomination and six Academy Award nominations.
The movie follows the Korean-American Yi family as they attempt to stake out a better life for themselves in Arkansas during Ronald Reagan's America. Minari is also loosely based on Chung's real-life childhood and experiences growing up on a farm with immigrant parents.
"When you're second-generation Korean American, it's hard to really see your parents fully," said Chung, who directed and wrote the screenplay for Minari, to NPR. "You kind of see the sacrifices that they make. And then on top of that, you start to have more of a language barrier with them, a cultural barrier. So you end up seeing your parents not for who they are in some sense. I don't know how to explain that, but you just feel this growing gap in a way."
If you're itching to watch the critically acclaimed film, read on for all the ways you can stream Minari right now from the comfort of your own home.
