When you’re a Jenner or a Kardashian, all it takes is a topless photo to garner millions of likes on Instagram. But Kendall Jenner just upped her social media game by posting a mirror selfie, sans top and wearing the tallest pair of boots humanly possible — they literally reach her waist.
The bright-orange, satin stiletto boots are a collaboration between avant-garde label Vetements and iconic show designer Manolo Blahnik (yes, we could totally see Carrie from Sex and the City rocking these). The statement boots, which are lined in beige leather and handcrafted in Italy, are available exclusively on Net-a-Porter, where they retail for a hefty $4,590. They’re from the Vetements fall ’16 couture collection.
“Playing dress up,” she captioned the photo, which is framed by an elaborately gilded mirror and reveals a modern, minimalist bedroom. Jenner, the 10th-most popular celebrity on Instagram, topped her look with a khaki fedora. The boots, unzipped around her cinched waist, are pointed at the toe with stiletto heels. “Heel jeans #sick,” wrote one fan, while others compared the boots to stilts.
If the boots look familiar, it’s because Jenner is not the first celebrity to rock the novelty look. Fashion risk taker Rihanna (naturally) sported the extreme boots at the OVO Fest in August, where she performed with Drake. Like Jenner, she completed her look with denim (jorts instead of jeans), but she ramped up the look with a matching duster jacket by designer Feng Chen Wang, opaque shades, and thick gold chokers. Oh, and she did wear a top — a black crop top. In an apparent homage to Rihanna, Jenner also wore her Vetements + Manolo Blahnik boots with one thigh zipped down.
Jenner is a veteran at “playing dress up” in experimental looks — and we love it. Earlier this month, the model stepped out in Los Angeles in what Yahoo Style dubbed “invisible jeans”: a pair of cut-off jorts with the seams and cuffs of the jeans still attached — but minus the actual legs of the jeans. And somehow, she pulled off the look.
The 21-year-old’s zany looks are totally intentional, of course — and even she admits to the crazy factor of her personal style. “Shop My Craziest Outfits of 2016,” Jenner wrote in a post on her website, which featured floral, thigh-high Charlotte Olympia Infinity & Beyond boots (tame in comparison to her orange showstoppers), Alice and Olivia beaded and embroidered floral bell bottoms, and a pink Balmain bustier minidress with a turtleneck — all for sale at designer prices.
That’s all well and good, but we’re holding out for the day Jenner sells her “giant, ridiculous” Coachella nose ring.
