Law Roach stunned the fashion world on March 16 when he announced his retirement from styling, writing in a now-deleted post on Instagram, “If this business was just about the clothes I would do it for the rest of my life but unfortunately it’s not! The politics, the lies and false narratives finally got me! You win… I’m out.” The internet immediately started speculating about the reason behind his sudden departure, wondering if it had something to do with the viral video of him and Zendaya at Paris Fashion Week.

In the clip, Zendaya — Law’s close friend and longtime client — arrived together at the Louis Vuitton show at Musée d’Orsay. Z sits in the last front-row seat next to Emma Stone, while Law is left standing, looking confused. The actress and designer appear to exchange words, before Zendaya points to a seat behind her in the second row.

The situation seemed tense, and given Law’s retirement announcement one week later, people worried about his friendship with Zendaya. But in a new interview with The Cut, the stylist explained what really happened at the LV show, and confirmed that there’s no beef between him and Z.

“So we left on time, but I don’t know if our driver went the wrong way, but we got stuck in traffic,” he began. “Also the way we came in, it was a long walk actually to get your seat. It was a long walk. So it was a lot of anxiety, because Zendaya is really respectful and she doesn’t like people to have to wait on her, and so it was just anxiety.”

Law said that he and Zendaya were rushed to their seats, but there was no spot for him. When Zendaya — who’s rumored to be an ambassador for the brand — turned and pointed to the seat behind her, she wasn’t telling Law to sit there. She was pointing out that that was her assistant’s spot.

“And so I was standing there — I was really just kind of confused,” Law continued. “And somebody was like, ‘Law, you have to sit,’ and I was like, ‘I don’t know where I’m sitting.’ That became really tough, because it made people think that Zendaya wasn’t taking care of me and wasn’t making sure I was taken care of.”

He also confirmed that his relationship with LVMH, the owner of Louis Vuitton, is all good. “...There’s no beef with LVMH. Delphine and the Arnault family have been so kind to me,” Law said.

The image architect previously addressed his relationship with Zendaya, asserting on Twitter that although he’s exiting the celebrity styling world, he and the actress are “forever!”

“She’s my little sister and it’s real love not the fake industry love,” he wrote.

During an appearance on Emily Ratajkowski’s High Low podcast on March 21, Law revealed that Zendaya learned about his retirement at the same time as the rest of the world. “It was tough for her,” he said. “...She said, ‘Girl, I thought we'd make big decisions together.’”

“Of course she supported me,” he continued. “She’s like, do you need me to send you on a vacation? Like, tell me what, tell me what you’re going through. And I talk[ed] to her about, you know, just being unhappy and being unhappy for a really long time and still grieving the death of my nephew. So we had that talk. And she was like, whatever you need, whatever you need. But the internet is cruel. It’s really cruel. So people started to blame her for my retirement. And that wasn’t fair to her. And the things they were saying, of course, isn’t true. So that spilled over to my suffering; she started to suffer too. I didn’t think that was fair. Because she has always protected me in this industry and vice versa.” ❤️

Law Roach later revealed that he'll be working with Zendaya for a little while longer. In April, Law told Extra at the Daily Front Row Awards that he would still work with Zendaya "in some capacity."

On June 22, he explained why he chose to keep styling Z. “How can I just pick up and leave somebody when I’m the only stylist they’ve ever had? She’s literally the one client where I’m like, ‘That is my family.’ And I know what I mean to her because she tells me all the time. So I am trying to figure out how to change my position,” Law told former celebrity stylist Mel Ottenberg in Interview magazine.

Law added that he is unsure what his role will be going forward.

“I’m thinking, do I get a team of young stylists and be more of a creative director and then change somebody else’s life and give other people opportunity?” he continued. “But that also comes with the whole thing of, how am I going to find people that are going to be loyal, or that really deserve it?”

“She has two big movies coming up, so I have time to figure it out before then, But she makes me feel good. When you have somebody that’s been in your corner in that way, you can’t just turn your back on her and be like, ‘Hey girl, I’m gone.’”

The two movies in question? They are Challengers and Dune: Part Two which both come out this Fall.
