Here's how the 'Home Alone 2' cast left Donald Trump with a massive bar tab

Recently, Macaulay Culkin shared that he’s not a big fan of Donald Trump’s brief cameo in Home Alone 2: Lost in New York, proclaiming that he much preferred the first movie since it “had 100 percent less Trump.”

Now, one-half of the sticky bandits in the movie, Daniel Stern, has revealed some behind-the-scenes details about running into the real estate magnate while filming the movie.

Stern wasn’t actually on set when Trump shot his appearance (upon entering Trump’s Plaza Hotel, Culkin’s Kevin McCallister asks directions to the lobby), but the veteran actor ended up having a very Trumpian encounter while drinking at the hotel bar.

“Me and Joe [Pesci] were in the bar drinking, and Mr. Trump and his wife, or girlfriend at the time, came over and said, ‘Drinks are on me!’ and then he left,” Stern recalled.

And with that, Stern and Pesci went to town. “I think we must have run up $5,000,” said Stern. “I mean we got the best of everything. We just ran up his tab after he made the big show of drinks for everybody.”

Stern, whose son, Henry, is a Democratic state senator in California, couldn’t help but look back on the night as a mini-act of political resistance: “He was a big shot, and I took my pound of flesh, or alcohol.”

Since Trump became president, his cameo in Home Alone 2 has become a polarizing issue. “Someone sent me a picture of a sign at the Women’s March saying, ‘Edit Trump out of Home Alone 2,'” said Stern. “That was their cause, which I’d have to say, I support.”
