The sixth season of Riverdale debuted on November 16, 2021, and after a brief midseason hiatus, finally returned to The CW on March 20, 2022. But of course, our Riverdale thirst can never truly be quenched — and if you're like us, you're probably already wondering, what else does season 6 have in store? What guest cast appearances can we expect? Has the show been renewed for season 7? Well, look no further because we have all the deets on the latest season of Riverdale.

What is season 6 of Riverdale about?

In the premiere episode of season 6, we're taken to "Rivervale." It's a parallel universe to "the town with pep," a world where magic, monsters, and superstitions reign supreme. We saw some seriously chilling storylines, ones that included sacrifices (yep), "sin pie," and the devil.

Episode six, the first episode to premiere in the second installment of season 6, picked up following the events of the season 5 finale — meaning we're back in Riverdale and Hiram Lodge has just set off a bomb in Archie's house, with Archie and Betty inside. But the two miraculously survive the explosion, and the show's carried on with its otherworldly storylines, as Archie and Betty discover that they have actual superpowers. Meanwhile, Cheryl is possessed by the spirit of her ancestor Abigail, and Percival Pickens, a descendent of one of the town's founders, has arrived to undoubtedly stir up some trouble.

On April 9, TVLine confirmed that this season of Riverdale will also include another musical episode. This time around, the series will recreate "American Psycho," a musical based on the novel of the same name and the 2000 film about Patrick Bateman, a finance exec in the 1980s who harbors a secret serial killer alter ego.

Who returns for Riverdale season 6?

The main cast is back, with Lili Reinhart, KJ Apa, Cole Sprouse, Camila Mendes, Madeline Petsch, Charles Melton, Vanessa Morgan, Casey Cott, Drew Ray Tanner, Erinn Westbrook, and Mädchen Amick all reprising their roles in season 6. Mark Consuelos, who played the evil Hiram Lodge for four seasons, will no longer appear as a series regular.

But that's not all. Earlier this season, we saw the arrival of one Miss Sabrina Spellman, who was portrayed by Kiernan Shipka for four seasons on the Chilling Adventures of Sabrina. Sabrina originally came from Greendale to help out her friend Cheryl Blossom. Now, she's set to make her return on the July 10 episode, titled "The Witches of Riverdale." And in a new promo released on June 27, we catch a quick glimpse into what her character is up to this time around.

"Where are the bodies?," Sabrina first asks. "They're both super cute."

"We'll need a coven to perform the resurrection," she adds, to which Betty (Lili Reinhart) replies, "We're not witches, sorry."

"Not yet," Sabrina clarifies.

During a short sequence of candle-lit rituals, Veronica (Camila Mendes) questions, "Is this gonna hurt?" Finally, Sabrina asks, "Do you have your own broom or do you want to ride with me?" Check out the full teaser below.

Is season 7 of Riverdale happening?

Yes! Riverdale was renewed for a seventh season on March 22, per Deadline. However, this will be the final chapter for The CW series. 😢

"As we prepare for the 2022-23 season, these scripted series, along with the alternative series we renewed earlier, will serve as the start of a solid foundation utilizing some of our most-watched series for us to build on for next year and beyond," Mark Pedowitz, chairman and CEO the CW Network, said in a statement regarding the network's renewed series. "These dramas are also important to our overall digital strategy, as they are some of our most-streamed and socially engaged programming, and we look forward to adding more new and returning series to help strengthen and expand our multiplatform footprint."

Confirmation of Riverdale's final season arrived in May, but fans were already bracing for the news as Lili Reinhart teased the show's possible ending during an Instagram Live in November 2021.
