And a new year means it's time to make some good old-fashioned New Year's resolutions.

So, since my resolution is to be a good friend, I figured I'd do you a solid and suggest some TV shows for you to watch based on what your New Year's resolutions might be (and all the shows are conveniently located on Discovery+).

So without further ado, here are the Discovery+ shows you should be watching based on your 2022 New Year's resolutions.

1.Try new foods: Diners, Drive-ins, and Dives
It's easy to get stuck in a food rut (as someone who has eaten about 400 English muffins with peanut butter in the last year, I can testify), so in 2022, why not branch out and try some new dishes? And no matter where you live, Guy Fieri visited some delicious restaurant near you (and here's the map to prove it). In each of the show's 419 episodes, the host, his bleached hair, and fiery bowling shirt visited a few local haunts with delicious dishes. Now you can expand your palette with grasshopper tacos, pigs head, or braised ox cheek (or just watch Guy eat those and stick with a burger).

2.Learn new things: How It's Made
If self-help books are to be trusted, then we should never stop growing, never stop reaching, and never stop learning. We are all students, after all. And so, if you're trying to learn some new facts this year (or perhaps just have that Mister Rogers crayon video stuck in your head from childhood), then might I suggest this Science Channel tentpole. In each episode, the audience gets an inside look at how a different household item is made. Jet skis. Milk. Artificial limbs. Zippers. Golf balls. Caskets. Wigs. Anything and everything. The show is oddly relaxing in its soothing, rhythmic view of assembly lines, but it's also informative. So cure anxiety while learning how frozen french fries are made. What could be better?

3.Be a better ally: I Am Jazz
Many of us (even those already in the LGBTQ+ fam) could be better allies, and that is especially true when it comes to being trans allies. With such a small percentage of the population being out as transgender, many of us don't interact regularly with trans individuals and therefore have trouble understanding their experience. Well, have no fear! Trans activist Jazz Jennings and her family are here to share their highs and lows with you on TLC's hit reality show. You'll learn the unique struggles of a transgender teen and her family, while also realizing she's not that different from any other teen girl. Brush up on your allyship so next year when your aunt has questions at Thanksgiving, you're ready to spread the good word.

4.Up your skincare routine: Dr. Pimple Popper
You may not have spider veins or a golfball-sized cyst on your shoulder, but we could all use a bit of help when it comes to our skincare routines. Dr. Sandra Lee (aka YouTube legend Dr. Pimple Popper) is here to help. On her TLC show, the dermatologist tackles numerous skin conditions, from the mundane to the bizarre. Patients enter feeling self-conscious about whatever ails them and leave with brighter, healthier, disease-free skin. And if you do happen to have spider veins or a golfball-sized cyst on your shoulder, she can point you toward a cure.

5.Remodel your home: Good Bones
During the pandemic, everybody and their mother bought a house, so it seems only right and natural that in 2022, your New Year's resolution may be to give the place a little remodel. As Maren Morris says, "The house don't fall if the bones are good", and the house-flipping mother/daughter duo of Karen and Mina are here to show you what good bones look like and how to work with them. Whether you're planning on knocking down a wall to open up your kitchen or flipping your mud room into a half-bath, they're here to show you the way. Call up your contractors and buy some paint rollers because 2022 is your year.

6.Reconnect with nature: Naked and Afraid
Look IDK why you'd want to connect with nature more than the standard five beach trips, four Central Park picnics, three Instagram hikes, two snow angels, and one apple picking expedition that are standard issue, but let's say that you want more than that in 2022. Well, if you do want more nature (like camping or foraging food or whatever), might I suggest this reality TV show where pairs of strangers must survive in the wilderness with no clothes for 21 days. It's basically Survivor minus the voting and clothes, but you'll learn plenty of interesting survival tidbits for your next hiking expedition or life post-apocalypse.

7.Avoid a con: The Rise and Fall of LuLaRoe
Every year at least one person you haven't spoken to since high school comes out of the woodwork to try and sell you some random product with a get rich quick scheme attached. Whether it be knives, facial serums, or ugly leggings, the MLMs will find you and it's your duty in 2022 to "just say no." To better understand the psychological conditioning that is used to con people into selling gaudy jewelry to their second cousins as well as how to avoid such tactics, watch this docu-series. Focusing on the fashion MLM LuLaRoe (not to be confused with LaLa Ri), the series does a deep dive into the exploitative practices of the brand as well as its eventual demise.

8.Learn to cook: Barefoot Contessa
Forget apple pie or baseball. Who needs them?! America's greatest national treasure is author, cook, and professional day drinker Ina Garten. If you're looking to learn how to cook in 2022 (and let's be real we're all at least pretending to want to be better chefs), then her show and recipes are a MUST. In her hundreds of episodes, she'll teach you how to whip up just about any dish you'd need and does so with a cheery kindness thats infectious. On the flip side, if you are a lover of booze (like myself) who is interested in adding some new cocktails to your repertoire, she's got you covered there as well. No matter how you slice it, the Barefoot Contessa must be protected at all cost.

9.Discover a new sense of style: What Not to Wear
As work-from-home culture continues to drag on, we've become astonishingly reliant on sweatpants. But I'm manifesting 2022 as the year where we get to go back to the office (PLEASE DEAR GOD I BEG OF YOU!), so you're going to need to sub out those sweats for something a little classier. Enter Clinton and Stacy. They've whipped even the least fashion savvy trolls into chic ready-to-go-into-the-office-and-socialize-like-normal-humans, so they can certainly help you. Learn how to buy clothes that fit your body. Learn how to match without being matchy matchy. Learn how to feel good about your outfit (that's not just leggings and an old sorority crewneck). 2022 is our year to become real people again (hopefully)!

10.Solve a murder: See No Evil
For me, the biggest goal I have every year is to solve a murder. Like Lady Gaga, I too am ready to investigate crime scenes and get to the bottom of things. Granted, no crimes have presented themselves to me to solve, but if they did, I would be ready and willing! And to that end, I've been watching this Investigation Discovery show about how camera footage can be used to catch murderers and thieves. Now if there was a crime, would anyone give me access to such footage? We'll cross that bridge when we get there. Best to be prepared, and let me tell you, no guilty party will escape my ever vigilant gaze! Criminals beware!
