Ever since Beyoncé released her new visual album Black Is King, that’s all I’ve been able to think about. The music, the fashion, and the visuals are all so good—I’m getting chills just writing about it. The album is inspired by the music from The Lion King: The Gift, and it is completely Beyoncé’s vision. She starred in it, wrote it, directed it, and was an executive producer. Talk about being a boss.
But ever since it dropped, people have had questions about who was in it, where it was shot, and what it’s really about. Lucky for you, we’re here to answer all of your questions.
What is Black Is King by Beyoncé about?
It’s based on the music from The Lion King: The Gift, which was also curated by Bey. The visual album will show “a young king’s transcendent journey through betrayal, love, and self-identity,” Disney and Beyoncé’s Parkwood Entertainment said in the announcement. “His ancestors help guide him toward his destiny, and with his father’s teachings and guidance from his childhood love, he earns the virtues needed to reclaim his home and throne.”
The announcement added, “Black Is King is an affirmation of a grand purpose, with lush visuals that celebrate Black resilience and culture. The film highlights the beauty of tradition and Black excellence.”
How do I watch Black Is King?
This one’s easy. Beyoncé partnered with Disney to make the album, so of course, it’s available to watch on its streaming service, Disney+. But it’s exclusive to the streaming service. So if you don’t have it, you can sign up here.
Where did Beyoncé film Black Is King?
The visual album has been in the works since last year. The entire cast and crew traveled all the way to Africa to capture its rich countries on camera. Production was mainly based in South Africa, Ghana, and Nigeria.
They also filmed in other locations including New York, Los Angeles, London, and Belgium.
How many kids does Beyoncé have?
All three of Beyoncé’s kids appeared in Black Is King (meaning they’re already more famous than I’ll ever be). Blue and twins Rumi and Sir all starred in the visual album.
Sir even got a special shout-out at the end. Beyoncé dedicated Black Is King to him: “Dedicated to my son, Sir Carter, and to all our sons and daughters, the sun and moon bow for you. You are the keys to the kingdom.”
How old are Beyoncé’s twins?
Little Rumi and Sir Carter are 3 years old. So young yet so iconic.
