A New Hello Kitty Cafe Is Opening So Your Bridal Shower Plans Have Changed

Calling all Sanrio fans. A Hello Kitty Cafe is set to open in Irvine, California, this week, just in time for any autumn bridal showers and bachelorette party festivities.

The cafe is the first brick-and-mortar spot in the U.S. However, it marks the fourth Hello Kitty Cafe concept in the country after a Hello Kitty Cafe Pop-Up Container in San Diego, as well as Hello Kitty Mini Cafes in Rancho Cucamonga and San Jose. For fans in different cities, two Hello Kitty Cafe Trucks also travel around the country.

Irvine’s latest hot (pink) spot features two different concepts in one: a fast-casual cafe with a separate private room for reservation-only afternoon tea and a fun cocktail bar at night. The possibilities for a fun ladies’ afternoon or girls’ night out are therefore doubly appealing: a mid-afternoon tea with the gals or an after-hours, cute cocktail hour.

According to the Los Angeles Times, guests who are visiting the cafe during the daytime hours can expect all the usual caffeinated cafe drinks, as well as specialized sweets like made-to-order mini hot doughnuts (flavors include cinnamon sugar, matcha and cookies ‘n’ cream), or a pick-your-own four-piece set of Sanrio character mini cakes.

Merchandise like mugs and small dishes are also available for purchase. For brides-to-be who want a more intimate affair, however, a private event in the Bow Room may be more appropriate. The room, which is reservation-only and entirely furnished with Hello Kitty-branded furniture and features, serves afternoon tea during the day—but not just any tea.

Patrons can expect a smorgasbord of Hello Kitty-themed goodies, including seasonal fruit, tea sandwiches, a buttermilk scone, mini cupcakes, a Hello Kitty mini cake, macaron and chocolate cake in addition to honey, strawberry jam, whipped butter and Hello Kitty-shaped sugars, all for the price of $55 per person. (Also important to note: afternoon tea is only available at Hello Kitty Cafe between Wednesday and Sunday.)

On weekends, wedding parties can forego the typical brunch and look to making a reservation at the cafe after 5 p.m., when the space reopens as a cocktail bar for guests 21 and older.Cocktail service will include a number of adult beverages, all tweaked to reflect the fun Hello Kitty ethos. One such cocktail is the Matcha Matcha, a drink made up of Japanese whiskey, yogurt, matcha and yuzu. Wine drinkers can also delight in an extensive list that offers, among other things, Hello Kitty Sparkling Rose, Hello Kitty Pinot Grigio and Hello Kitty Prosecco.
