She was one of the famous models – alongside the likes of Gisele Bundchen and Naomi Campbell – who helped turn the Victoria's Secret catwalk show into a glamorous fashion event.

However, Heidi Klum has said that the lingerie empire's recent rebrand, which has seen them hire Priyanka Chopra and Megan Rapinoe as spokeswomen, is "about time".

Speaking on Australia's The Sunday Project, the 48-year-old said: "As a model, you go there, you are happy to have a job.

"When you are not the company, you do what you are told. But finally, looking at this now, I'm like, about time.

"Good. You know, because things do need to change. They have been changing. It's been taking too long."

Klum became a Victoria's Secret 'angel' in 1999, and worked with the brand for 13 years.

In May, the German-American model revealed in an Instagram post that her 2003 appearance on the catwalk had been when she was pregnant with her daughter Leni, now 17.

Last month, Victoria's Secret announced it was replacing its 'angels' with the 'VS Collective'.

In November 2019, the brand announced that it would be doing away with its annual fashion show.

At one point, becoming an 'angel' and walking the brand's catwalk – which grew so big it became televised – was a coveted accolade among models around the world.

However, in recent years they have taken steps to move towards a more inclusive image after criticism over body diversity in the brand's campaigns.

Klum's comments came after she opened up about the challenges of co-parenting in another interview.

She shares three children – son Henry, 15, son Johan, 14, and 11-year-old daughter Lou – with her ex-husband Seal.

Speaking to The Sunday Times' Style magazine about how she overcomes difficulties in her mind, the star - who is now married to musician Tom Kaulitz - said: "It could be easier sometimes, but everyone is healthy and that’s the most important thing. Everything else can be figured out."

Klum and Seal, who share custody of their kids, married in 2005 and famously repeated their wedding ceremony every year, before divorcing in 2014.

Of their relationship, she added: "Sometimes it’s just talking things out, you know? I never really had that before.

"Before I always had to make all the decisions, do all the planning for everyone.”
