Yasmin Finney was recently one of ten LGBTQ+ trailblazers honored at this year’s Attitude Pride Awards, and she’s opening up about the impact her roles have already had at such a young age.

The 18-year-old burst onto the scene this year as part of Netflix’s hit series Heartstopper, where she plays Elle Argent, a trans character with positive representation that doesn’t revolve around dysphoria or negative experiences with herself or those around her.

“Elle is such a beautiful character,” Finney told PinkNews. “She’s so confident and self-assured at such a young age. I don’t think I’ve ever seen that on screen.”

She also added that she believes she “was put on this earth to make a change” through acting, hoping “that everything I do with the representation that I’m giving people, they can see themselves represented, and they can see a positive side [to] being a queer person.”

After making such a splash on Heartstopper, Finney has already been cast in the upcoming Doctor Who 60th anniversary special, and only continues to aim higher, recently expressing her interest in jumping into the James Bond franchise.

“I love James Bond films. Every film I’ve seen, I’ve always thought, ‘I’d love to be that cool, sexy Bond girl,’” she told the Daily Star.

She has also suggested she’s been talking with people in Hollywood about potentially joining the ever-growing world of superheroes on screen as well.

Whatever’s next, Finney’s star is clearly on the rise, and wanting to utilize that to impact change is a worthwhile goal.
