Calling all superhero fans, HBO's newest series The Franchise is set to be your new obsession.

HBO has just announced they've picked up Sam Mendes' pilot episode The Franchise, which is a half an hour comedy show taking a wry look at the making of superhero movies and will be turning it into a series.

The pilot was created before the SAG-AFTRA strikes and the rest of the series will start production after the strikes have concluded. So, in the meantime, here's everything you need to know about the series, including the impressive cast.

What is HBO's The Franchise?

The Franchise was originally a pilot episode created by Sam Mendes, Armando Iannucci and Jon Brown, that has now been picked up and will be developed into a series for HBO.

The series is said to be about: "the crew of an unloved franchise movie fight for their place in a savage and unruly cinematic universe.”

Essentially, it's going to explore the chaotic world of making superhero movies from behind the scenes.

Amy Gravitt, the Head of HBO & Max Comedy, said of the new series: "With a deft touch only he can bring, Sam has brilliantly captured the romance and the reality of filmmaking today. Jon is superb at sending up worlds we think we already know. Together, with Armando, they have delivered a truly hilarious comedy ensemble. I can’t wait to see more."

Set to appear in The Franchise is Himesh Patel, Aya Cash, Jessica Hynes, Billy Magnussen, Lolly Adefope, Darren Goldstein, and Isaac Powell as series regulars.
