HBO casts Rose Leslie and Theo James in The Time Traveler's Wife series
HBO is adapting the best-selling novel The Time Traveler's Wife into a series, starring Divergent star Theo James and Game of Thrones' Rose Leslie. The novel, which was written by Audrey Niffenegger, was adapted into a film starring Rachel McAdams and Eric Bana back in 2009 and quickly broke all our hearts, so we can't wait to see what HBO has in store for a series. Here's everything we know about The Time Traveler's Wife.
What's The Time Traveler's Wife about?
The story follows Claire Abshire (Leslie), who has had an imaginary friend ever since she was six years old. The friend is a man who can travel through time and often appears in the woods behind her house and tells her stories about the future.
As an adult Claire meets the time traveler she met when she was a child: a man named Henry DeTamble who she has been destined to meet her whole life, but who doesn't recognise her. The pair fall in love and she becomes the time traveler's wife. But that's where the heartbreak begins, Henry, who has been able to time travel since he was a child, doesn't actually have any control over it, and due to stress or for no reason at all frequently falls through time and disappears from her life.
Who's starring in The Time Traveler's Wife?
In her first return to HBO since Game of Thrones Rose Leslie will play Claire Abshire, aka, the time traveler's wife, alongside Sanditon star Theo James as Henry DeTamble.
The project is being adapted by Sherlock and Dr Who writer Steven Moffat, who told Deadline how long he has wanted to see the series go ahead, "I read Audrey Niffenegger’s The Time Traveler’s Wife many years ago, and I fell in love with it. In fact, I wrote a Doctor Who episode called 'The Girl in the Fireplace' as a direct response to it."
When is The Time Traveler's Wife being released?
We're still some time away from having a release date, but the project reportedly got underway in May 2021 so at least we know it can't be too long.
