Harry Styles Made His “Saturday Night Live” Hosting Debut

He also released a brand-new song from his upcoming album.

On November 16, Harry Styles did double duty as both musical guest and host on one of Saturday Night Live’s most anticipated episodes of the season, and the singer kicked it all off with a nod (and playful punch) to One Direction.

During his opening monologue, Harry sat down at a piano and cracked a few jokes at the expense of his former bandmates. "I don't know if you've heard or not but... I'm not in a boy band anymore. I'm in a man band now. I was in a band called One Direction. How crazy would it be if they were here tonight? Well, they're not here,” Harry teasingly quipped. (Why you gotta do that to my heart, Harry?!)

"I love those guys. They're my brothers. Niall, Liam, Louis, and, em... Ringo. Yeah, that’s it," he then let out, joking about his relationship with Zayn Malik. “Just so grateful that Simon Cowell grew us in those test tubes.”

Aside from showing off his comedic chops, the British singer made his hosting debut in style (pun intended). For the show’s opening, Harry rocked canary yellow pants and ocean blue blouse combo, rounded off by a beige double-breasted jacket, that will surely be going into his frozen fashion vault.

As musical guest, Harry put his celeste vocals in full display. Aided by three back-up singers, a guitar and a piano, he offered a pared-down rendition of his most recent single "Lights Up," now clad in a grandiose black sequined jumpsuit. As the song went on, bass, drums, and a trumpet jumped in — adding an extra flair to the lusty song.

For his second performance, Harry took the stage while donning an all-red ensemble and black skinny tie to perform “Watermelon Sugar” — the second track on his upcoming sophomore solo album, Fine Line, which will be released on December 13.

In fact, Harry made fans pull double duty as well as he unveiled the feel-good song just minutes before taking the iconic SNL stage. “harry dead*ss dropped Watermelon Sugar as SNL was starting,” one fan commented on Twitter. “WHAT I AM SUPPOSED TO DO WATCH SNL OR LISTEN TO WATERMELON SUGAR HARRY STYLES WHAT ARE DOING TO US,” another one added.

If you didn’t stan Harry before, you probably do after SNL — so you’d better start silently preparing for any more potential surprise drops before December 13.
