Harry Styles's Cryptic Tweet Has the Internet in Shambles

And he might be hinting at a new album!

Fans of Harry Styles might be able to temporarily press pause on playing "Do" detective. As i-D magazine reports, it appears as if Harry's mysterious tweet was a teaser for an upcoming album.

Nothing is officially confirmed, but a Twitter fan account has pointed to a number of recent billboards that have started popping up around Australia. And based on the billboards' inclusion of Columbia Records's logo — the singer's record label, the initials "TPWK," which likely stand for Harry's favorite phrase, "treat people with kindness," and the painted words, "Do You Know Who You Are?" — fans believe the signs are tied to a new album from the singer-songwriter.

Again, this all remains as speculation for now, but Harry has hinted that new music is coming. In a recent interview with Rolling Stone, the singer said the release is his "most soulful yet," and that many of the songs are about "sex and feeling sad."

Welp, looks like we better keep our eyes peeled for more billboards and more cryptic tweets from the singer.

In case you had any doubts about Harry Styles's cultural impact, let me clear that right up for you: The singer-songwriter posted two letters (yes! That’s it! Two!) on Twitter just now, and the internet really and truly went berserk.

On Saturday, October 5, the former One Direction member posted a very simple word: "Do". Without any other context, it's obviously pretty confusing to fans. Did he press "send" too soon? Did he fall asleep while tweeting? Was he hacked? Is he teasing new music?! What is going on?!

A quick scroll through the mysterious tweet's replies will show that fans really have no idea. "Omg ur posting ur single's title in words aren't u," one person posited. Another opted for politeness, asking: "Could you kindly say more? Maybe something about new music? I would appreciate it." There were memes, reaction gifs, and even some comparisons to Lady Gaga's infamous letter F tweet. The general consensus? Something! Is! Happening! But…what?

To be fair, this frenzy of speculation isn't entirely unfounded. In his recent Rolling Stone cover, Harry revealed that he is, in fact, working on new music, describing his forthcoming album as his "most soulful yet" and that it's "all about having sex and feeling sad."

Still, the very fact that Harry can tweet one word and send his entire fan base straight to Theory City (not to mention pick up a Twitter Moment in the process) is pretty outrageous…and impressive. Just imagine how the internet will come to a crashing halt when he eventually does release new music — or reunite with his One Direction bandmates. Hey, Harry himself hasn't ruled it out, you never know.
