‘Harry Potter’ Fans Have a Major Issue with Professor McGonagall Being in ‘Fantastic Beasts ’—Here’s Why

Between her animagus ways and whip-smart sass, Professor Minerva McGonagall (Maggie Smith) is a Harry Potter fan favorite. But when Warner Bros. announced a younger Minerva would play in the upcoming Potter universe film, Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald, Potterheads were none too pleased.

Why? Well, she wasn’t even born at the time the film takes place, so yeah, that’s an issue.

The Fantastic Beasts sequel takes place in 1927, aka eight years before McGonagall was born in October 1935. Further, the young Minerva is played by 35-year-old Brooklyn actress Fiona Glascott. So not only is Professor McGonagall born in the upcoming film, but she’s in her 30s. It just doesn’t add up.

Guess we’ll wait and see what the deal is when Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald hits theaters next Friday, November 16.

Warner Bros., get it together.
