After seven very long years Happy Valley is finally back on BBC and we could not be more gripped by the latest series.

The new series started last week (1st January) and saw the return of Sarah Lancashire as Sgt Catherine Cawood. The series opens seven years after the last and sees Catherine planning for her retirement, initially unaware that someone has been taking Ryan (Rhys Connah) to see his dad (James Norton) in prison.

In last night's episode (8th January) the identity of the people taking Ryan to the prison was finally revealed to both Catherine and the audience, and it's safe to say viewers are all feeling the same way about the shocking betrayal.

Caution: spoilers ahead. In the first episode of season three it was revealed Ryan had been visiting his dad Tommy Lee Royce in jail, and was being taken by a man and a woman, but it wasn't 100 per cent clear who they were.

Some people thought it could be Catherine's ex-husband, others thought it could be Catherine's son Daniel. However, early on in episode two it was revealed it was in fact, Catherine's sister Clare (Siobhan Finneran) and her partner Neil Ackroyd (Con O'Neill), who had been taking Ryan to visit Tommy. Yep, I'm still pretty shocked.

Ever since the revelation, people on Twitter have been sharing their reactions with some people questioning how Catherine will be able to forgive Clare.

One person tweeted:"How can you forgive that? Oh Clare."

Another questioned what Clare stood to gain from taking Ryan to visit Tommy, saying: "What is Clare getting out of this, going to that effort?"

Others have simply been shocked by Clare's betrayal with one person tweeting: "Clare and Neil have been taking Ryan to see his dad in prison oh my god! It's gonna go down."

Even though Catherine found out pretty early on in the episode, she never directly confronts her sister about her betrayal, perhaps not wanting to believe it. The episode ends with Catherine following Clare and Neil dropping Ryan off at the prison, and Clare lying on the phone to Catherine, saying they are in Leeds shopping.

The episode ends with the dramatic cliff hanger of Catherine walking into the café and sitting across from her sister. As if that wasn't tense enough, we now have to wait a whole week to see a potentially dramatic confrontation.

Next Sunday can't come soon enough!

Happy Valley is available on BBC One and BBC iPlayer now.
