The Australian film stars Sarah Snook, who we know and love as Shiv Roy in Succession, as a single mum named Sarah whose daughter, Mia, starts displaying strange behaviour and having inexplicable memories of a past identity.

In case you were too busy hiding behind the sofa to remember what exactly happened to Sarah and Mia, then here is the ending of Netflix’s Run Rabbit Run explained. Thank us later!

Run Rabbit Run ending explained

During the film, Mia insists that she is a reincarnated version of Alice, Sarah’s younger sister who went missing when she was Mia’s age. To help deal with these delusions, Sarah decides they should visit her childhood home.

When they get there, Mia continues to insist she is, in fact, Alice and wants to sleep in Alice’s bedroom. We learn that Sarah and Alice had a difficult relationship and fought a lot, so when Sarah suggests playing hide and seek, Mia refuses and says Sarah used to lock Alice away when they played and that she hates her.

Soon, we find out that Alice didn’t just go missing all those years ago, Sarah actually hit her over the head with a rabbit trap then pushed her off the edge of the cliff near their childhood home. We also learn that the disturbing drawing weren’t made by Mia, but by Sarah.

Soon, Sarah begins to seemingly hallucinate and it’s suggested that she killed Mia the same way she did Sarah, but her ex-husband Pete arrives and they find Mia alive and safe. That evening, Sarah goes to her mother and tells her that Alice is dead but her mother doesn’t want to believe it. She also gives in and speaks to Mia as if she is Alice, telling her that she told their mother she ran away as she didn’t want to admit the truth.

In the final scene of the movie, we see Mia follow the rabbit she caught earlier towards the edge of a cliff. She walks hand-in-hand with young Alice, and mum Sarah watches on from the window in horror calling out to Mia. We also see Pete motionless on the bed with a pillow on his face, suggesting either Sarah or Mia killed him.

Then, the film ends on a literal cliff-hanger. Was it one of Sarah’s hallucinations or did Mia die on the same cliff as Alice?
