If you’ve been binge-watching Evan Peters’ chilling portrayal of notorious serial killer Jeffrey Dahmer in Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story, you've probably been Googling a lot of true crime questions about the events. What was the exact timeline of Dahmer’s killings? What happened to Dahmer’s father, Lionel, and his brother, David? How accurate is the casting? And is Dahmer’s infamous apartment building still standing now?

Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story dives into the gruesome details of the serial killer's murders, which involved violent methods of dismembering, body part preservation, and cannibalism. Dahmer himself is no longer alive — he was killed while serving 15 consecutive life sentences — but information about his life, his apartment, and his living habits during his killing spree is surprisingly public knowledge.

Where was Jeffrey Dahmer's apartment?

Dahmer lived in apartment #213 at 924 North 25th Street in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. The 49-unit building, called the Oxford Apartments, was Dahmer's home for 14 months. The killer moved in during May 1990, and was arrested on July 22, 1991.

Where else did Jeffrey Dahmer live?

Jeffrey Dahmer lived with his grandmother, Catherine Jemima Hughes, in her home in a suburb located near downtown Milwaukee called West Allis. She lived on 2357 S 57th Street in a house that is still standing to this day, and claimed to be entirely unaware of the murders that happened under her roof. Dahmer moved out into an apartment at 808 North 24th Street in September 1988, and then moved into the Oxford Apartments a year and a half later.

What did authorities find in Jeffrey Dahmer's apartment?

FBI photos provided a detailed account of the set-up and contents of the serial killer's living space. The authorities found 11 bodies in Dahmer's apartment after his arrest in 1991, along with blood stains, seven skulls, two hearts, two skeletons, a pair of severed hands, multiple dismembered torsos, and other human organs. They also found Polaroid photos, weapons, and acid.

His apartment set-up included a beige couch, a fish tank, a carpet, and a television.

Is Jeffrey Dahmer's apartment still standing?

Oxford Apartments no longer exists. Most tenants moved out of the building after Dahmer's arrest, and the complex was understandably unable to rent out the empty units to other people.

The building was purchased for $325,000 by the Campus Circle Project, which was described as "a collaborative neighbourhood redevelopment initiative" sponsored by Marquette University. Campus Circle Project helped all remaining tenants find new homes, and then the entire building was demolished at the request of the victim's families in November 1992, 15 months after the discovery of human remains in Dahmer's former apartment.

The empty lot was almost converted into a playground, but those plans were never seen to fruition. As of today, the space is a deserted area surrounded by a fence with no future plans to convert it into a playground, apartment complex, or memorial site.
