Which ‘Ultimatum: Queer Love’ Couples Lasted? Netflix

The Ultimatum is a relationship experiment like no other. Five couples come together, and within those couples, one of the partners has given their partner an ultimatum that they have to get married or they'll be breaking up for good. The couples then have a temporary break up where they pair off into trial marriages with new partners for three weeks, before getting back into their original couples for another three weeks.

After that, each person then decides if they want to get engaged to their original partner, enter into a relationship with someone new, or remain single. Queer Love is the first season to focus solely on queer couples, and in the ten episodes we’ve seen breakups, makeups, and even a love triangle.

Now that the season has wrapped, you may be wondering just what happened to the original couples, so we’re here with all the information. Here’s what happened to all the couples from The Ultimatum: Queer Love after the reunion.

Vanessa and Xander

Who gave the ultimatum: Xander

Xander’s trial partner: Yoly

Vanessa’s trial partner: Rae

Xander initially issued the ultimatum, as they were ready to get married after dating for four years. Vanessa didn’t want to get married, and she entered the experiment excited to make connections with the other participants.

Xander was paired with Yoly during the trial marriage, and the two quickly fell in love, surprising Vanessa, who thought Xander would have a hard time connecting with anyone else. Vanessa was partnered with Rae during the trial, and while the two got physically intimate, their connection never moved to anything other than friends. When Xander and Vanessa got back together for their own trial marriage, Vanessa seemed a bit more invested in the relationship than Xander, who was now questioning if Vanessa was truly their life partner.

On decision day, Xander and Vanessa decided to break up, although Vanessa did state that she would have wanted to stay with and eventually marry Xander. During the reunion, the two revealed that they hadn’t really talked since they broke up, and they both tearfully admitted that they were better off not being together.

Mal and Yoly

Who gave the ultimatum: Yoly

Yoly’s trial partner: Xander

Mal’s trial partner: Lexi

Yoly and Mal struggled with the fact that while Yoly was ready to get married, Mal felt like she was the type to fall in love with whoever she was with at the time. Mall also wanted to get finances and their living situation in place before they got married and had children.

During their respective trial marriages, Yoly fell fast and hard for Xander, while Mal and her partner, Lexi also became very close, but more on a platonic level. When they reconnected for their own trial marriage, Mal tried her best to correct all of the behaviors that Yoly had complained about before (not being romantic, not helping out around the house). Yoly said that she did appreciate the change, but she also admitted that she was in love with Xander.

On decision day, Mal proposed to Yoly, who accepted. Later that same day Yoly met up with Xander, and while Xander expressed that they wanted to give it a shot with Yoly, she revealed that she was engaged to Mali. They then had a tearful goodbye, but it seemed like Yoly was still conflicted about who she wanted to be with. At the reunion, Mali stated that she and Yoly were now happily broken up, although they did then argue back-and-forth about the timeline, and what exactly led to their break up. At the end, Mal stated that Yoly would always be a part of their family, albeit as the “cousin that you can’t stand very much.”

Lexi and Rae

Who gave the ultimatum: Lexi

Lexi’s trial partner: Mal

Rae’s trial partner: Vanessa

Lexi and Rae had a bit of a tumultuous time during their trial marriages, as Lexi didn't approve of Rae becoming physically intimate with Vanessa. When they got back together for their own trial marriage, Lexi was unable to let go of the fact that that had happened, and it seemed the incident was on the verge of derailing their own plans to get back together and move forward.

On decision day, Rae ended up proposing to Lexi, who also proposed to Rae. At the reunion, the two seemed happy together, and they explained that they had spent some time on the East Coast and had plans to be bicoastal. Lexi then revealed that her mom had set a date for the couple’s wedding, and they had a plan laid out for having kids. The rest of the reunion went by peacefully, but in a shocking twist, a post credit scene stated that Lexi and Rae had broken up shortly after the reunion and the wedding was off.

Mildred and Tiff

Who gave the ultimatum: Mildred

Mildred’s trial partner: Aussie

Tiff’s trial partner: Sam

During their initial relationship, Mildred and Tiff struggled with bad communication, with their arguments often becoming volatile. During her trial marriage with Aussie, Mildred struggled to connect with her, and Aussie actually ended up leaving the marriage early. Sam and Tiff also had a hard time connecting, but they eventually settled into a friendly bond.

When they reconnected, things seemed very passionate between Mildred and Tiff, but they still had some pretty severe communication issues, and Tiff’s friend expressed some wariness when it was clear that Mildred wanted to get proposed to by the end of the experiment no matter what.

On decision day, Tiff proposed to Mildred, but at the reunion, Mildred told the group that the two were broken up. Unfortunately, it was not a peaceful separation, and after revealing that she was arrested after a fight between the two, Mildred also accused Tiff of not respecting her as a mother, not paying their part of the rent, and cheating on her. Tiff admitted to not connecting with Mildred’s son, but denied the other accusations. Tiff then left the reunion early and in tears, stating that they never wanted to see Mildred’s face again.

Aussie and Sam

Netflix

Who gave the ultimatum: Sam

Sam’s trial partner: Tiff

Aussie’s trial partner: Mildred

Aussie and Sam mostly struggled with timing, as Aussie wanted to live together for a while before getting engaged. During Aussie’s trial marriage with Mildred, they had a lot of arguments, which led to Aussie walking out on the experiment. During Sam's trial marriage, with Tiff, she learned how to speak up for herself, and when she and Aussie reconnected, they clashed a bit because Aussie was reticent to talk about feelings. During a particularly tense moment, Aussie walked out during lunch and tearfully revealed to Sam’s friend that she had some issues from childhood that were preventing her from moving forward.

On decision day, Aussie proposed to Sam with both a real rock, and then a diamond rock, and at the reunion, the couple announced that they were still together, leaving them as the sole couple still standing from the season.
