You may know “Hamilton: An American Musical,” as the record-breaking broadway show, which won 11 out of its 16 Tony nominations in 2016, including Best Musical. The show was so popular, tickets sold out within a matter of seconds and prices skyrocketed to thousands of dollars on resale sites. Now, the hip-hop musical is being turned into a movie and premiering exclusively on Disney Plus on Friday, July 3.

The movie is a live stage production recording of the musical, written by, co-produced and featuring broadway superstar Lin-Manuel Miranda. Although, the musical was inspired by the 2004 biography “Alexander Hamilton” by Ron Chernow. However, if you’re worried about it becoming another one of those awkward live TV performances like “Dirty Dancing” a few years back, don’t be.

Variety’s chief film critic Peter Debruge says, “The 2 1/2-hour feature is edited like [the] world’s longest Super Bowl halftime spectacular, which differentiates it from those stuffy theatrical productions aired on PBS, as if everything else about it weren’t entirely unique already.”

Of course, the catch is that you’ll need to be subscribed to Disney Plus to watch “Hamilton.”

Unfortunately, Disney Plus recently suspended its 7-day free trial (convenient, huh?), so you’ll have to face the music and sign yourself up for a monthly or annual subscription. The monthly subscription costs $6.99 per month, while the annual costs $69.99 for the year.

Disney Plus also offers a bundle deal with Hulu and ESPN+ for $12.99 per month for more movies and shows outside of the Disney umbrella, as well as live sporting events.

Disney Plus launched in November 2019 as Disney’s exclusive streaming service for airing its classic animated movies, as well as new shows and films. The service also streams content from Pixar, Marvel, National Geographic and “Star Wars.”

Of course, its new “Star Wars” series, “The Mandalorian,” which premiered with the original launch brought the world Baby Yoda. So if you need any other reason besides “Hamilton” to subscribe to Disney Plus, do it for Baby Yoda.
