Though Disney, which reportedly outbid competing studios for the rights to the film, initially wanted to show the Hamilton: An American Musical film in theaters, the company ultimately changed its plans in light of the coronavirus pandemic. Now, the smash-hit Broadway show will be available to watch starting this July 3.

Dedicated fans or newcomers to the musical will be treated to a live-capture of the Tony award-winning stage show, which chronicles the tumultuous life of the United States's first secretary of Treasury (played by Lin-Manuel Miranda) and the country's fight for independence from the British — a fitting film release for the Fourth of July weekend.
