On their 2019 single, "Nightmare," Halsey sings "I'm tired and angry, but somebody should be" — a statement that still rings true in the wake of Roe v. Wade potentially being overturned by the Supreme Court of the United States. The 27-year-old musician kicked off their Love and Power tour in West Palm Beach, Florida on Tuesday, May 17, where they stood up for abortion rights during their performance.

Per a video obtained by MTV, Halsey gave a passionate performance of "Nightmare" with striking visuals behind them on the jumbotron. In between images of young women and protestors, a red screen with white text displayed informative statistics about abortion and reproductive health in America. "Abortion is one of the safest medical procedures performed today, more than 99 percent safe in fact," the message begins. "Nearly 8 in 10 Americans oppose overturning Roe v. Wade. Black women suffer from maternal mortality at rates three times higher than white women."

The statement continued with more numbers to back up the significance of performing safe abortions in the U.S. "So far this year, 1,991 total provisions related to sexual and reproductive health and rights have been introduced across 48 states. In Oklahoma and Texas, abortion is banned at six weeks, before many know they're pregnant." The informative visuals also revealed that there are 16 states where 95% of counties don't even have an abortion clinic — a staggering statistic considering nearly 25% of women will have an abortion in their lifetime, according to the American Civil Liberties Union.

Ahead of their tour, Halsey took to Instagram to pen a heartfelt and impactful post about SCOTUS' leaked draft decision to overturn Roe v. Wade on May 3. "This is one of the most significant events we will witness in our lifetimes," they said of the decision. "The effects of this decision will spiral into lethal situations for our entire country. Most seriously impacting people of color, rural areas, and socioeconomically impacted communities."

They also encouraged their fans and followers to do their part in educating themselves and their communities as well as reach out to legislators. "I cannot stress enough the implications of this moment in history. This is a cruel attack on our fundamental right to choose if and when to have a child," Halsey continued. "I felt this way before I became a mother and I feel this way even more now after having my son. Pregnancy and having a child is a dangerous and life-altering experience, though one that can be BEAUTIFUL if you are consenting and desiring of it. Everyone deserves the right to choose and the right to make that choice SAFELY."
