Halle Berry breaks her silence after 'Bruised' injury halts production

Halle Berry’s injury while making Bruised may have knocked her down but she’s far from out.

The 53-year-old actress used social media Wednesday to thank her fans for their well wishes following her on-set injury. Berry, who plays an MMA fighter in the flick, corrected the executive producer of the film’s assessment that she was “tired” as a result of the injury, and made it clear it won’t stop her from doing her own stunts in the future.

“Thank you to all the folks that have showered me with love since my injury,” Berry wrote. “It’s par for the course when you do your own stunts, and I wouldn’t have it any other way.

She added, “Just know I’m far from tired. I’m wide awake ... and just getting started!”

The Oscar winner is starring in the mixed martial arts film, which also marks her directorial debut. It was announced Monday that production was rescheduled after Berry "got slightly injured in the fight,” executive producer Brian Pitt told NJ Advance Media. The injury was “nothing serious,” he added, but he said Berry was “tired” and “needed a break.”

The film — in which she plays a troubled MMA fighter overcoming personal obstacles — is expected to resume on Friday. However, gym scenes Berry was supposed to shoot in Newark on Monday may be postponed until later in production.

Berry trained for eight months for this film, sharing her progress on Instagram. But her regular followers may not have noticed that she upped her training as she regularly uses the photo-sharing app to share photos and videos of her workouts. She has been training with Peter Lee Thomas for five years and he frequently appears on her page in posts about their sweat sessions.

Berry has long gotten physical for her roles. For John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum earlier this year, she trained for months to be able to do all the stunts, which included taking down men with her legs, delivering punches, taking punches, jumping through the air, dodging knives and shooting guns.

Thomas told USA Today that Berry worked out five days a week for 60 to 90 minutes at a time — and three of those days she also took fight training. She trained like an MMA fighter for that role as well — shadowboxing, skipping rope and doing pull-ups while wearing a sauna suit. She got strong enough to sprint and run up stairs carrying a 65-pound sand bag.

And while she also sustained an injury on that film, breaking three ribs while stunt training, she completed that film and jumped right into her Bruised training.

Thomas told the website about Berry, “This woman could walk through walls. She’s a titan."
