Halle Bailey Updated "Little Mermaid" Fans About What It's Like Recording the Music

"I’m like, ‘Wow, am I really doing this?’"

Halle Bailey is opening up about spending life "Under the Sea." The star of the future Little Mermaid live-action remake confirmed that the movie's return will include some brand new songs.

Speaking with PopSugar, the newly-casted Ariel confirmed that the hit song, "Part of Your World" will be in the film, but she's also been working on some new elements in the undersea world, saying, "I’ve been a fan of The Little Mermaid since I was 5, so those new songs are very exciting to me, as well as the old. That’s probably like, ding, ding, ding! My number one.”

Confirmed details about the film, which is scheduled to begin production this year, have remained a little scarce, but we do know that Jonah-Hauer King will play Prince Eric, and actors including Awkwafina and Melissa McCarthy are rumored to join the cast.

As for Halle Bailey's part in the production, she admitted to having some major feelings about playing such a well-known Disney character. “It’s so overwhelming, and beautiful, and breathtaking. I’m like, ‘Wow, am I really doing this?’” she said. She also said that the directors have encouraged her to be "authentically me" in her portrayal and called it a "really fun growing experience.”

News of Halle's casting was first announced back in July 2019. At the time, some criticized the casting decision, but Halle addressed the negativity in a previous red carpet interview, saying, "I feel like I’m dreaming and I’m just grateful. I don’t pay attention to the negativity. I just feel like this role is something bigger than me. It’s going to be beautiful. I’m just so excited to be a part of it.”
