It's (part of) her world and we're just living in it. 🧜🏽♀️ Disney's brand new live-action remake of The Little Mermaid drops on May 26th, and Halle Bailey's press tour looks have quickly turned her into our ultimate mermaidcore inspiration. ICYMI, she's been hitting up the premiere and press events in oceanic looks inspired by her half-fish, half-human character, like this liquid metal dress at the US premiere and this seashell-inspired dress at the UK premiere.

Halle Bailey recently made a splash at the Australia premiere in a custom Off-White gown. The dress featured a tight sheath skirt with a flowing chiffon overskirt layered in a half-circle around the pearl-encrusted waist to create the illusion of a tail. The strapless rippled bodice looked almost like inverted mermaid fins, and the entire piece was made of an icy blue fabric with a shimmering, aquatic sheen.

Halle, who is also set to star in the upcoming remake of The Color Purple, looked radiant with a frosted blue eyeshadow to compliment her gown. The actress wore her hair in a half-up, half-down updo that cascaded over her right shoulder, and she wore dangling earrings decorated with pieces of sea glass (🎶 I've got whose-its and whats-its galore! 🎶) highlighted by her pulled-back hairdo.

Halle told Glamour that Ariel was the reason she wanted to swim as a child. "She didn’t look like me, but I was okay with that because it was what I was used to at the time," said Halle. But her role in the Little Mermaid remake is a sign of change for the better — when first looks of Halle as Ariel were released, videos of young black girls reacting to the videos started to go viral.

“When I saw those for the first time, I just cried. I was sobbing uncontrollably," Halle admitted to Glamour. "The fact that these babies are looking at me and feeling the emotions that they’re feeling is a really humbling, beautiful thing.”
