The Met Gala tonight saw most attendees embrace bold, over-the-top fashions. (Some tied into the American fashion theme—others didn’t). But there was one duo who opted for more pared-back looks on the red carpet tonight: Hailey and Justin Bieber. The married couple chose to embrace all-black evening attire that was timeless, a surprising choice for the couple who typically favors brightly colored streetwear and daring silhouettes.
Hailey wore a black, floor-length gown with a plunging neckline by Saint Laurent. “I’m inspired by the Grace Kellys of the world,” she said during Vogue’s livestream. Justin, meanwhile, did black suiting by “la maison Drew”, as he called it (a reference to Drew House, his own streetwear label). To complete the dressy-casual vibe, he wore a pair of sneakers and carried around a smiley-face—the symbol for Drew House—top-handle bag.
While the couple has a history of coordinating their ensembles on the streets, they rarely do the red carpets together. This is their first Met Gala together, and one of their first joint appearances in a while. Why the stripped-back fashions tonight, when they’re known for statement streetwear? “I’m married now, so things have become more adult,” Bieber said. Perhaps married life has changed them.

Justin and Hailey Bieber looked stunning on the Met Gala red carpet, especially that jeweled Saint Laurent gown! But it’s not their elegant appearance that is making waves in the news, it’s one particular moment, when the couple was posing for the photographers, that has fans questioning on social media whether the model is pregnant […]
Under the theme “In America: A Lexicon of Fashion,” AOC attended the Met Ball wearing this Brother Vellies gown by designer Aurora James. Regardless, AOC stood by her choice. At first, no one quite understood Kim Kardashian's head-to-toe black ensemble from Balenciaga at the 2021 Met Gala.
After a year hiatus, the Met Gala is back to celebrate American fashion. Anna Wintour tapped Timothée Chalamet, Billie Eilish, Amanda Gorman, and Naomi Osaka to cochair the event, while Tom Ford, Instagram's Adam Mosseri, and Anna Wintour herself served as the honorary chairs of the "In America"-themed Gala. Prepare to see some bold looks - like Billie Eilish's floor-sweeping Oscar de la Renta gown - as well as stunning looks with special tributes, representing America both today and yesterday at this year's event.
With a dress code centered on the theme of American Independence, corresponding with the Met's In America: A Lexicon of Fashion exhibit, the gala showcased the very best of American fashion and all the different meanings that "Americana" can take. Though some stars took a subtler approach, there were a handful of celebs who absolutely understood the assignment and soared bald-eagle-style above the rest!
Celebrities left it all on the Met Gala steps on Sunday: romantic gowns, elaborate but inspiring ensembles, and even golden robot armor. For Met Gala cochair Billie Eilish, who played on this year's "American Fashion" theme with a Marilyn Monroe-inspired ballgown, it only made sense to stick with her Old Hollywood inspiration and change into a wine-colored Oscar de la Renta cape dress. Like something straight off of a Hollywood red carpet from the 1950s, Billie's dress featured a corset-style bodice, a ruffled hem, and a flowing chiffon skirt with a thigh-high slit that gave us another peek at the tattoo on her right leg.
Celebrity style has already taken a more glamorous direction than swimsuits and coverups, and we're just halfway through September. Not to knock beachy looks, but with the return of red carpets in Venice, parties, and Fashion Week taking over NYC, the fall is about to get a little more Fashion - and we're not even talking about the Met Gala. The proof is in looks from the likes of Gigi Hadid in a slick leather blazer and a very cool pair of heels or Gabrielle Union, who stepped out showing off a glammed-up take on athleisure that we'll be thinking about all month.
