Gwyneth Paltrow opened up to Anna Faris on Faris’ Anna Faris Is Unqualified podcast about how she truly felt about “consciously uncoupling” from her ex-husband Chris Martin in 2014 and ultimately divorcing him over four years ago. “I’ve learned so much from something I wanted least in the world,” she told the host candidly, via Harper's Bazaar and CNN.

Paltrow explained, “I never wanted to get divorced. I never wanted to not be married to the father of my kids, theoretically. But I have learned more about myself through that process than I could have imagined.” Paltrow and Martin were together for over 10 years. They share two children together, 16-year-old Apple Martin and 14-year-old Moses Martin.

Paltrow ultimately went on to remarry director, producer, and writer Brad Falchuk in 2018. She told Faris after that process, “because I focused on accountability, I was then able to find the most amazing man and build something that I've never had before with Brad, my husband.”

Dating Falchuk at first terrified her, Paltrow admitted, because the relationship was different and challenged her to confront conflict: “I was scared [with Falchuk] because he is a person who demands presence and intimacy and communication in a way I just didn’t know how to,” she told Faris. “I like to fight by shutting down—goodbye! I leave the room. And he was like, ‘No, absolutely not. We’re sitting down, and we’re figuring this out.’ And he demands that I am honest with myself in a way that is hard for me, but which really helps me grow.”
