YouTuber Harry James creates content that's all about inspiring and uplifting men who are experiencing thinning or balding hair. In a recent video, he spoke to a number of men who, having struggled for years with hair loss, had made the decision to shave their heads—and filmed the process.

Many of the men that James interviewed mentioned the insecurity and social stigma that surrounds this subject. "It's something that we guys don't like to talk about," says Greg. "It happens to the majority of us, which makes it normal."

Kevin's hairline first started to recede in his twenties, but he has noticed that his hair loss has accelerated now that he is in his forties. He also acknowledges the self-consciousness that can come with hair thinning. "I'm generally a pretty confident person," he says, "So it's just a weird thing, that I think most guys face with hair loss, this insecurity that maybe you're not used to in other parts of your life. I think I'll look decent with a shaved head, so why not take that leap and just do it and get it over with, and just drop that insecurity and having to worry about it."

In addition to those feelings of insecurity, several of the men in the video describe feeling liberated from all of the time and energy that they would dedicate to covering—or just thinking about—their hair loss. "I have other things I can be worrying about," says Adam. "I don't need that extra stress. No-one does." Lucas, meanwhile, described hiding his bald spot as "a pain in the ass."

In each clip, the guy shaving his head describes feelings of excitement, or a weight being lifted. For some, like Ricky, taking that leap was life-changing:

"The depression is real, your self-worth is affected," he says. "I have hundreds of hats, I thought I was pulling it off with the sprays and the whole bit, just trying to hold on, hold on. You've got to just take it, man. Own it, live it... It's weird, it's nerve-racking, all that comes with it, but it's empowering. I felt this strength, you know. I spent so many hours of anxiety, time, money, all of these things, just for this little spot. I thought, just own that spot."
