Grogu Funko Pop Balloon Joining Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade

·2 min read

The Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade is going somewhere it’s never gone before. It’s going to the galaxy far, far away. This year, for the first time ever, a Star Wars balloon will float down the streets of the Big Apple on Turkey Day. And it’s going to be an adorable trip. A Funko Pop-inspired version of The Mandalorian‘s Grogu will chase after his own giant floating ball. And then you’ll have a chance to bring your own versions of this lovable balloon home. We can’t wait to see Grogu at the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade.

Lucasfilm

Lucasfilm announced its little green tyke will be a big part of the 95th Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade. Star Wars has partnering with Macy’s and Funko to create a giant version of The Child. He’ll make his parade debut with a balloon designed by Funko art director Reis O’Brien. Measuring 41-feet high, 29-feet long, and 37-feet wide, it will also celebrate his Force powers. He’ll be going after his own floating ball, just like he does on the series. Bringing this oversized Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade Grogu to life was not easy, though. His big ears are the best. Unless you’re designing a big balloon to float through a city full of skyscrapers.

“We’re no strangers to the thrill of translating Star Wars characters into the Pop! form,” O’Brien told StarWars.com. “Thanks to the strong creative relationship with Lucasfilm, we knew we could develop a fun, charming and iconic moment. After a crash course in how the Macy’s balloons are constructed, we started the creative process inspired by everyone’s love for Grogu. His giant ears were an unexpected challenge of their own, but once we finally got a peek at the final result we knew that all of our hard work and collaboration had paid off. There’s going to be a whole lot of cuteness floating above the streets of New York City come Thanksgiving morning.”

While balloonGrogu will make his big debut during the parade on November 25, you’ll be able to bring this version with you anywhere you go. Funko has also announced a line of bobbleheads, deluxe bobbleheads, keychains, and apparel for its giant Baby Yoda. Something Santa Claus should definitely note when he closes out the parade.

It’s taken a long time to make Star Wars a part of Thanksgiving. But it was worth the wait for a balloon this cute.
