'Grey’s Anatomy' Fans Think Arizona Is Returning After Jessica Capshaw's Cryptic Instagram Post

Last week, former Grey's Anatomy star Jessica Capshaw (who played Arizona Robbins) posted an Instagram photo of herself wearing a New York City shirt.
Grey's fans were quick to draw the connection to Arizona's character, who left the show in season 14 to move to New York.
Fans are now speculating that Arizona Robbins could return to the show in season 17, especially after Jessica reunited with the current Grey's Anatomy cast for a special Stars In The House event on January 14.
If you've been keeping up with season 17 of Grey's Anatomy, you know that there have been a lot of unexpected twists and turns so far — namely, the jaw-dropping returns of fan-favorite characters Derek Shepherd (Patrick Dempsey) and George O'Malley (T.R. Knight). But after such a major (and much-loved) twist, could it be possible that there are even more character returns in the works?
Many Grey's fans certainly think so — and better yet, they're convinced they know just who might be coming back to Grey-Sloan Memorial Hospital, especially after they spotted a cryptic Instagram post from former Grey's star Jessica Capshaw. The actress, who played Dr. Arizona Robbins on the show until her departure in 2018, posted a seemingly ordinary photo of herself last week — but what caught many fans' eyes in particular was the shirt she was wearing, which showcased a graphic of New York City.
"New York State of mind in a California sea of sunshine ... (trying to bring back the sunshine-y thoughts 😉)," Jessica wrote in the caption.
As many Grey's fans might remember, Jessica's character was a pediatric surgeon who was introduced way back in season 5 of the medical show, initially as a love interest for Callie Torres (Sara Ramirez). But what some may not recall is that Arizona left Grey-Sloan Memorial Hospital to move to New York City, departing the show at the end of season 14 to reunite with Callie and their daughter, Sofia, in the Big Apple.
Naturally, Grey's fans were quick to draw the connection between Jessica's shirt and Arizona's character, speculating that the New York City mention was a possible clue to Arizona's future return on Grey's Anatomy.
"NEW YORK? LIKE ARIZONA?!" one fan commented on Jessica's Instagram post. "That was a lot of Grey's related talk ..." another wrote.
Some fans, in fact, pointed out further support for the theory: Jessica had also reunited with the current Grey's Anatomy cast just a day after her Instagram post, making a surprise appearance on the January 14 episode of Seth Rudetsky and James Wesley’s Stars In The House YouTube series.
"She is coming back, last night the cast had a reunion and she appeared in it, she is coming backkk !!!!!!!!" one Instagram user commented.
The special virtual event, which had the stars of Grey's Anatomy talking about the show to raise money for The Actors Fund, featured many current cast members, including Chandra Wilson, James Pickens and Kelly McCreary. But one Grey's star — Jo Wilson's Camilla Luddington — made sure to hint at the possibility of Arizona's return at one point in the episode, specifically while talking about what was next for Jo in season 17.
“It’s already been teased, but she’s thinking about changing to being an OB. So that’s going to be a really big storyline for her,” Camilla said. “I’m ready for my pink scrubs, whenever they want to put them on me. And maybe Capshaw can come back.”
To which Jessica replied, “You’re never ready for the pink scrubs!”
Well, we don't know about you, but we'd definitely want to see Arizona come back to mentor Jo in her new specialty in pediatrics — and help her get those pink scrubs at last! In the meantime, we'll have to patiently wait for Grey's Anatomy to return in March to see if our theory holds true.
