"We added two professional development days for staff," Frank said, based on needed training for new requirements from the state.

The contract was negotiated over three days — May 9, 10 and 11 — and went smoothly, he said.

Drug-sniffing dogs visit Green schools

The safety committee reported drug dogs came to the district three times during the school year, Frank said, finding an issue the first time and no issues the subsequent two visits.

Also reported was affixing room numbers on school windows for identification by safety personnel.

The board talked about plans for a full evacuation A.L.I.C.E. drill in the fall.

"We do this every year," Frank said, but plans being made for the coming school year are for "a more elaborate, full-scale safety drill."

FOR YOUR INFO

  • The family and community engagement committee parent survey results will be reported first to the committee and then to the board in September.

  • A welcoming committee is being developed to make the transition of new families into the district "more efficient and a better experience," Frank said. A new informational session for parents at kindergarten screenings got positive feedback and will be repeated in future years.

  • Asbestos removal begins May 31 at the Wilbur Berkey Fieldhouse; offices will be moved to the middle school and high school. The summer door and window replacement and HVAC installation project will not be completed until after the new school year begins because of HVAC controls being back ordered.

  • A sidewalk is being constructed from the sophomore parking lot to Smithie Drive, where a crosswalk will be added.

  • Four new teachers have been hired — Katie Ramseyer, eighth-grade science; Kelly Yerian, gifted intervention specialist; Jennifer Carr, high school math; and Jordan Whisler, high school intervention specialist.

  • Organizational changes include Jen Shutt becoming middle school principal and middle school athletic director; and Geoffrey Zimmerly, high school assistant principal and high school athletic director.

  • A work session is set for 6 p.m. July 18, location to be determined.
