Lynn: A president unfit for a pandemic
Instead of compassion and clarity, the president, in his near-daily addresses to the nation, embodies callousness, self-concern, and a lack of compass.” The rationales of saving lives or acting for the public good don’t enter into his thinking.
Peter Navarro warned Trump administration officials in late January that the coronavirus crisis could cost the United States trillions of dollars and put millions of Americans at risk of illness or death not once but twice, Peter Navarro wrote, dated Feb. 23, warned of an “increasing
probability of a full-blown COVID-19 pandemic that could infect as many as 100 million Americans, with a loss of life of as many as 1.2 million
souls.” while Trump was still downplaying the threat of the virus.
Trump was warned about the impending COVID-19 crisis, but he didn’t take action early by ordering the testing equipment and much-needed emergency
supplies that cities and states are now struggling to obtain. Instead, Trump held rallies and played golf, declined an offer of test kits from the
World Health Organization and he gave away 17.8 tons of critical US supplies to China.
“In the days and weeks after [Secretary of Health and Human Services Alex] Azar alerted him about the virus, Trump spoke at eight rallies and
golfed six times, as if he didn’t have a care in the world.
There's no doubt that Trump's denial, for political reasons, wasted five weeks of precious time fighting this disease by saying “We have it totally under control”, “It will all work out well”, “We have it very well under control, and I think its going to have a very good ending. So that I can assure you”, “Well, we pretty much shut it down coming in from China, but we did shut it down!”, "the virus dies with the hotter weather”, "The Coronavirus is very much under control in the USA.”, "going very substantially down ... close to zero”, "It's going to disappear. One day -- it's like a miracle -- it will disappear.", "Coronavirus is a democratic” Hoax”, "a vaccine is coming "relatively soon”!
The president is misleading the public about unproven cures, Trump “has a small personal financial interest” in Sanofi, the French drugmaker that makes Plaquenil, the brand-name version of hydroxychloroquine.Trump’s “assertiveness” in promoting the drug contrary to the recommendation of top health experts “has raised questions about his motives.
He is reinforcing racial stigma by repeatedly referring to the contagion as the “Chinese virus".
He fights with governors and calls them names, and tells them if they don't praise him, he will not accomodate thier needs, takes no responsibility, brags about the ratings for his minimal press coverage are higher ratings then Bachelor or Monday night football.
The profound need for personal praise, the propensity to blame others, the lack of human empathy, the penchant for rewriting history, the disregard for expertise, the distortion of facts, the impatience with scrutiny or criticism. For years, skeptics expressed concern about how he would handle a genuine crisis threatening the nation, and now they know.
He inherited an NSA global pandemic response team and a pandemic response play book . The team he dismissed in 2018 and the book .... well it didn't contain pictures and pop ups
Trump made a jarring claim: the U.S. would soon have an over-supply of ventilators – enough to distribute across the globe to other needy countries. What Trump didn't mention: Earlier that same morning, the Trump administration was preparing to receive a Russian military cargo plane– loaded with 60 tons of masks, ventilators and other items – to distribute to besieged American doctors and nurses.
When he says if only 100,000 Americans die his administration has done well. If he had done his job in that 6 week period of doing nothing the number of Americans that die would be cut in half.
He is a lonely old man who needs attention and these briefings replace his rallies. His ultimate narcissistic personality disorder, and narcissist sociopath behavior are unacceptable.
This is what total incompetence looks like. Who knew that putting a career con man in the White House had consequences?
Anyone but wannabe mob boss Don the Con in 2020!
