"Gossip Girl" Reboot Drops First Trailer and Release Date

·2 min read

Heads up, Upper East Siders, the first teaser trailer and release date for HBO Max's new Gossip Girl has finally arrived.

“You've gotten so comfortable,” Kristen Bell's iconic narrator begins in the clip, accompanied by slow motion scenes of the cast in full glamour. “Thinking you're in control… of your image, your actions, the narrative. Yet you forgot one thing: I can see you. And before I'm through, I'll make sure you see you, too. XOXO."

The mini-trailer features some hints at drama to come with these new characters: Whitney Peak's Zoya enters the bar alone. Jordan Alexander's Julien and Eli Brown's Otto pose for a ring light selfie, though Otto's attention is divided. Meanwhile, Zión Moreno's Luna leans in to whisper a secret to Savannah Smith's Monet, and Evan Mock's Akeno and Emily Alyn Lind's Audrey share a close embrace. But Thomas Dougherty's Max has a watchful gaze nearby, and Tavi Gevinson's Kate has her eyes glued to her phone… and everyone gets that iconic Gossip Girl alert.

“I’m really excited for people to see this reimagining because it’s still super juicy and fun, but it also is maybe a little bit more for the small weirdo that I was [in the early 2010s],” Tavi told Teen Vogue earlier this year. “It’s also very clever about what that kind of privilege looks like now, when so many young people are politically active and galvanized. I’m excited for people to see it because it’s very hard to keep secrets about. I’m tired of having to speak in code about it … I think this reimagining takes its own characters to task for how they choose to wield the power they have."

Consider our interest extremely piqued. The new Gossip Girl premieres on HBO Max on July 8. Check out the teaser below:
