"Gossip Girl" Had to Cut a Scene That Involved Sex Toys
Gossip Girl had plenty of jaw-dropping moments, including, of course, when we found out the true identity behind the gossip blogger at the end of the series (we'll let you find out for yourself if you still haven't watched the hit series in its entirety). But another surprising tidbit that we just found out? Well apparently, there were a couple of scenes and storylines that were just a bit too risque for CW back in the day.
For the tenth anniversary of the Gossip Girl premiere, Vulture caught up with co-creators Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage, along with the show's executive producer Joshua Safran. And while expressing some things he wished were different about the show, Josh also shared that he regrets "things like not showing Chuck finger Blair and the dildos and other sexual stuff."
Things between Leighton Meester and Ed Westwick were steamy enough. This would have taken things to a whole new level. But it looks like Standards and Practices had to boot some content. Vulture writes:
“We had a story about Chuck taking care of Blair under a table at Xan’s,” said Safran. “I don’t think we were able to do it, but we hinted at it.” Maybe better yet was a big box of dildos. In the episode where Georgina Sparks (Michelle Trachtenberg) is tormenting Serena from afar, one of the things she does is send her a box of dildos. “There were dildos she sent to Dan at the house, and we had these really huge dildos in this house that Penn [Badgley, who played Dan] was so shocked to see — but we cut it because you couldn’t show them on air,” said Safran. “The deleted-scene version, which I don’t think we ever put anywhere, is hilarious because they’re like a foot and a half long. Penn was really shocked.”
It sure would've been interesting if things like dildos and fingering ended up making it to Gossip Girl. Not because of the explicitness of them though — it could've truly been groundbreaking for a show as popular as GG to depict forms of sexual activity that still has an air of taboo around them. I mean, there was that threesome with Hilary Duff after all.
