Looking for a last-minute Labor Day getaway? You should probably Google it.
Today, the company announced the addition of several new travel features intended to help people decide where to go, and when to buy tickets. These come in addition to the company’s Travel Trends tool, which will tell you what destinations are trending for Labor Day, and where you can get a hotel deal. (For those who want to avoid anywhere crowded, skip Nantucket and Montreal—there are cheaper hotels in Edinburgh and Seattle, anyway.)
Many of the travel updates are for Google Flights, the ultimate lazy girl’s flight research tool. When you pick an itinerary, Google will tell you whether that price is expected to go up or not. (And if you buy from August 13 to September 2, the company will refund you the price difference if your ticket does decrease before departure.) Google will also tell if you if the ticket cost is low, high, or average for the destination, so you can decide whether it’s worth it to visit Mexico City before the month’s over.
Maps is also getting some enhanced features: After you’ve booked your trip, it will show you personalized hotel results based off of the places or points of interests you’ve searched for. You’ll be able to access your flight and lodging reservations from the Maps app, even if you're offline—which comes in handy when you land in an international locale with no wi-fi.
All of this is replacing the Google Trips App, which the company announced they were shutting down earlier this week. So, ardent travelers, breathe a sigh of relief—your trip planning email threads will now be a little bit shorter, and your Labor Day can be a little less indecisive.
