Google's Most-Searched Person in the U.S. of 2018 Isn't Meghan Markle

From ELLE

Meghan Markle catapulted to international fame in 2018 following her extravagant star-studded royal wedding in May and her recently-announced pregnancy, so you might assume she'd be the year's most Googled person. But even though the new royal captured headlines year-round, according to Google's new Year in Search data, Markle was only the second most-searched person in the U.S. She was bested by Demi Lovato.

Not only did Lovato top the list for most-searched people, beating out Markle, Brett Kavanaugh, and controversial YouTube star Logan Paul, but the singer also took the No. 1 spot for most-searched musicians, with Eminem, Ariana Grande, Cardi B, and Rick Ross trailing behind.

Lovato appeared in the news after she was hospitalized for an apparent overdose back in July and entered rehab at Cedars-Sinai for recovery. Shortly after her hospitalization, the singer wrote a heartfelt letter to her supporters.

"I have always been transparent about my journey with addiction. What I've learned is that this illness is not something that disappears or fades with time. It is something I must continue to overcome and have not done yet," she wrote. "I want to thank God for keeping me alive and well. To my fans, I am forever grateful for all of your love and support throughout this past week and beyond. Your positive thoughts and prayers have helped me navigate through this difficult time."

While Lovato took the crown for most-searched in the US, Markle is at the top of the list for most-searched person in the UK. The Duchess of Sussex and her lavish royal wedding also ranked high for Google's top searches. The royal wedding and royal baby are the most searched news of the year.
