'Good Times' Star John Amos Breaks Silence on Daughter's Elder Abuse Claims

John Amos is shutting down claims that he is a victim of elder abuse.

After his daughter Shannon Amos launched a GoFundMe page seemingly on his behalf, claiming the Good Times star suffered "elder abuse and financial exploitation," John has released a statement expressing that he's doing just fine.

Parade spoke directly with John's rep, Belinda Foster, who shared the following statement on behalf of the 83-year-old TV legend:

"I wish to make a statement for the record that I am doing well. I appreciate everyone's concerns but again, please understand that this GoFundMe campaign is not one that is accurate or authorized by me. Thank you, John Amos."

Foster made it clear to Parade that John was "not fighting for his life, and he's not in ICU."

The publicist for AWJ Platinum PR said the West Wing alum's recent medical attention—which she categorized as "a little tune up"—was for fluid in his legs.

This update comes less than a day after Shannon appeared to create a fundraising effort on behalf of her father. She wrote on the GoFundMe page, "On May 14th of this year, I received a distressing call from my dad, who was hospitalized far away in Memphis, Tennessee."

The statement continued, "Though I was out of the country, we managed a brief FaceTime conversation before his pain became too unbearable. Desperate, I reached out to a family friend, who flew to Memphis while I prepared to join them. What we found shattered our world: my dad fighting for his life in the ICU."

"During the following weeks, my family and I unraveled a horrifying truth," the note read, "my dad had fallen victim to elder abuse and financial exploitation. Determined to seek justice, we a are working closely with the Colorado Bureau of Investigations and the local Sheriff's Department in my father's home state."

Later, in a since deleted Instagram post, Shannon noted, "All due respect to my father's response, I understand that this is embarrassing and upsetting, and probably not what he would have wanted me to do, but it is in his best interest."

Parade has reached out to Shannon directly and has not heard back.
