Good news, everyone: Dad is feeling better.
We’re talking of course about America’s Dad: Tom Hanks. The beloved actor was shooting a movie in Australia when he and wife Rita Wilson developed fatigue, body aches, and the symptoms of a cold. Both tested positive for COVID-19 and immediately went into quarantine. They’ve been isolated ever since, moving from the hospital to their Australian home on March 16 while remaining quarantined from the rest of the world.
Hanks has provided upbeat updates throughout the ordeal, from a Mr. Rogers quote to a picture of one of his beloved typewriters. In his latest communique from Down Under, Hanks says he and his wife both feel better before repeating the same thing every rational political leader and medical official has been saying: stay the hell away from other people.
Hanks closed on a typically Hanksian note of optimism: “Going to take awhile, but if we take care of each other, help where we can, and give up some comforts…this, too, shall pass. We can figure this out. Hanx”
Hanks was working on is a Baz Luhrman-directed movie about Elvis Presley, playing the role of Colonel Tom Parker, Presley’s manager. Incredibly, he seems to be the only member of the cast and crew to have gotten sick.
There’s no word yet on when the couple’s quarantine might end or what their plans are after that, but when they do finally get out you can be sure Hanks will post an update, though it might not be quite as memorable as his son’s.
