‘Good Morning America’ Co-Host Lara Spencer’s Vail Wedding Album: Get the Details

Lara Spencer and her longtime beau, tech entrepreneur Rick McVey, closed out summer with a new beginning. The couple, who originally met on a blind date set up by a mutual friend some three-and-a-half years ago, made their love official in a gorgeous ceremony in Vail, Colorado, over Labor Day weekend.

“It happened! Best. Day. Ever,” she captioned a screenshot of her walking down the aisle with her 16-year-old son Duff Haffenreffer. The Good Morning America co-host also shared images of herself with the dapper groom, as well his three grown daughters at a post-wedding BBQ. Perhaps most adorably, a photo of the newlyweds with three of their four parents was also shared by the bride.

“So blessed to have 3 of our four parents by our side. Of course my dad was there too. We could feel his joy everywhere. ,” she captioned the shot.

Spencer, 49, and McVey got engaged this past January, and were so excited to celebrate their union with their 135 closest family and friends (no word yet on whether or not her GMA co-hosts attended, though social posts suggest that Robin Roberts and Michael Strahan did not).

Here, The Knot presents all the details about Spencer’s dreamy Colorado wedding, from the designer of her stunning gown to the inspiration behind her reception decor.

THE VENUE

Spencer and McVey opted to take advantage of the grand outdoors for their ceremony, exchanging vows before a backdrop of breathtaking greenery and clear blue skies. For their reception, the couple set up a clear tent that similarly allowed for guests to dine under the sunny blue Colorado sky and dance the night away under the stars.

THE DRESS

Spencer looked positively enchanting in a sleeveless Adam Zohar lace gown with a mermaid skirt and sheer cutouts, which she wore with a pair of simple, chic Prada heels. Zohar told E! News that it was a minor miracle that he and his team were able to turn around the stunning dress in just about one week. The designer explained that the fabric itself typically takes seven months to create, but thankfully, “we actually had just enough fabric for one dress for Lara Spencer,” he told E! News. “In one week we created a new dress and shipped it to New York. And she’s happy.”

THE GROOM’S LOOK

McVey looked especially dapper in a white tuxedo jacket, white dress shirt, black bow tie and black slacks. “No one wears a tux like you, baby. Thank you for filling my heart and soul,” Spencer captioned a photograph of the pair posing before a backdrop of towering mountains.

THE CEREMONY

Spencer’s 16-year-old son, Duff Haffenreffer, walked her down the aisle to Christina Perri’s “A Thousand Years,” and her daughter and McVey’s three grown daughters also had roles in the ceremony as well. According to E! News, they all delivered poignant readings at the altar.

THE FLOWERS

Spencer’s hand-tied bouquet was wild and free, much like her spirit, and consisted of white dahlias, freesia and garden roses. An arch made entirely of a mix of white flowers also framed the couple’s vows at the end of the aisle, and overflowed into their reception area, where the decor included floating white lanterns and blooms.

THE RECEPTION

The reception space for Spencer and McVey’s wedding embodied the theme of “a million moons,” as Spencer captioned a shot of the space, which included countless floating white lanterns hanging from the ceiling of a clear-top tent and an explosion of white blooms as centerpieces on each guest table. “Thanks for bringing our vision to life,” she wrote, tagging event planners Eclectic Hive.

THE CAKE

Spencer did not skimp when it came to cake, opting for a four-tiered behemoth that included layers of berries, cream, chocolate decadence and funfetti. The exterior of the cake was decorated simply, with a few white garden roses dotting the confectionary creation.

THE MUSIC

The newlyweds relied on the musical stylings of DJ Steven Elliot to spin fun tunes throughout the night. At one point during the later evening portion of the night, both Spencer and McVey hopped behind the turntables with glow sticks in hand. “DJ Steve does it again. 3 days. Three different vibes.All fantastic. Thanks @steelo2_ for providing the soundtrack to a spectacular weekend,” she wrote.
