'The Good Doctor' Season 4 Is Going on Another Short Break This Spring

The Good Doctor fans, we’ve got another interruption this week.

In mid-January, season 4 of the ABC medical drama returned from its winter hiatus and since then new episodes have been airing on Monday nights at 10 p.m. ET. After several breaks here and there, the show is going on a short hiatus again, which means there will not be a new episode of The Good Doctor on tonight.

Last Monday, following the closing credits of the latest episode, a trailer for the next episode of The Good Doctor was shared on YouTube. In the promo video, viewers were told that they would have to wait a few weeks before tuning into a new episode.

When will The Good Doctor season 4 return in 2021?

The Good Doctor will return to ABC with a new episode on Monday, May 10, 2021 at 10 p.m. ET. The Good Doctor will be back with its 16th episode of season 4 entitled “Dr. Ted.” In the upcoming episode, Claire (Antonia Thomas) tells Lea (Paige Spara) that she’ll need surgery due to a pregnancy complication. Shaun (Freddie Highmore)'s instincts as a medical professional kick in but he’s asked to stay on the sidelines.

For the season 4 premiere of The Good Doctor, showrunner and executive producer David Shore spoke with Deadline about how Shaun was going to grow as a person.

“We want to deal with … a mature relationship, and the challenges of that,” David told the outlet. “The mistakes that we all make in relationships, and the wisdom that Shaun can bring, along with the misunderstandings, and the confusion he takes.”

As for why The Good Doctor is not on tonight, it may be due to production delays caused by the coronavirus pandemic. Since season 4 debuted in November, the show has taken a total of six breaks including this one. While this break is admittedly a bummer, we're savoring each and every season 4 episode this spring — after all, the season 4 finale will likely be sometime this month.
