  • Fans of HGTV's Good Bones have questions for Karen Laine, namely about a back tattoo most fans didn't know about until season 4.

  • In last week's episode, Mina accidentally dropped the keys to the unit down a drain, prompting Karen to get on the ground and recover them.

  • To bring her back up, Mina pulled at Karen's legs, exposing her back in the process and a large, colorful back tattoo.

Last week, the all-new episode of HGTV’s Good Bones had fans of the mother-daughter duo chatting about the green and white wallpaper installed, reminding people of Golden Girls icon Blanche Devereaux’s bedroom. But there was another moment in the Season 4 episode that had viewers asking questions about Mina Starsiak’s mom, Karen Laine.

In “Tiny Condo, Giant Upgrade,” the two toured a ground unit in the Indianapolis neighborhood Old Southside, and while assessing the property, Mina accidentally dropped the keys to the unit down a drain. Without thinking twice, Karen got on the ground to recover them and while trying to pull her back up, Mina exposed her mom’s back and a giant back tattoo. Just after the episode aired, searches for "Karen Laine tattoo" spiked, according to Google Trends.

“Hold my legs,” Karen said as she went down headfirst, while her daughter stood nearby with a light, astonished by the events unfolding.

Within a matter of seconds, she started yelling: “I need help! I need help! I don’t know how to get out. I’m stuck.”

As Mina pulled her legs, viewers caught an eyeful of Karen’s back, which actually has a large, colorful back tattoo on it. Although the ink wasn’t seen in detail—though we think it may be a koi fish—it’s clear that Karen’s tattoo covers most of her back.

Neither Mina or Karen acknowledged the tattoo when they had their time with the camera. (The former defense attorney did elaborate on the suspenseful moment, explaining that she didn’t have anything to push up against or hold on to in the drain, causing her to slightly panic.) But, in a January 2018 interview with Marketplace Events, Karen did address it briefly: "Most people are surprised to find that I have a tattoo that goes from the nape of my neck, covers my back, and extends down the backs of my thighs," she said.
