'GMA' Fans Are Getting Really Emotional Over Michael Strahan’s Moving Instagram Post

Michael Strahan may be living the good life now as an NFL Hall of Famer and beloved Good Morning America and Fox NFL Sunday cohost. But life before his success in the NFL wasn't always easy for the 49-year-old former athlete.
As detailed in Michael's appearance on Uninterrupted's More Than an Athlete ESPN+ series, the football player struggled as a teen in Houston attending Westbury High School. As he admitted in a recent clip posted to his clothing line M by Michael Strahan's account, "High school was, to me, surviving every day. I never felt like I had a handle on every day. It was just surviving every day."
Michael continued: "There was nothing happening in my social life then. My life was school, and I played football, which was the real reason I was there. Westbury wasn't exactly a powerhouse school. I was not necessarily an over-dominant, powerhouse player. I remember getting one sack in high school."
Michael also remembers competing against players from other schools and reading about them in the newspaper. "I was never mentioned in anything like that. So, I always felt like I was playing catch up to those guys," Michael recalled.
Reacting to the clip on Instagram, fans immediately rushed to the comments section to offer their support. "You more than caught up Michael Strahan, you have flown by," one fan noted. "Your words speak volumes!!! High school was the same for me also. Had to fit in. Just kept my head down and played basketball. Glad I’m not the only one out there. 💪🏽🔥❤️," another said. "I always been a fan of yours and listening to your stories makes me even happier to know what a beautiful heart you have God bless you Michael," a different fan wrote.
As for the rest of the story, you'll have to watch episodes one and two of More Than an Athlete, which will begin to detail Michael's rise from high-school football player to a dominating defensive end at Texas Southern University and eventual New York Giants starter. As Michael's football fans may know, he went on to set a record for most sacks in a season and was a part of the 2008 New York Giants when they beat the New England Patriots in the Super Bowl. Capping off an incredible career, Michael was inducted into the NFL Hall of Fame in 2014.
Now, of course, we see Michael mostly doing sports commentary on Fox NFL Sunday and greeting us on Good Morning America during the week. But even still, it's really cool to look back on how Michael got to where he is today and his journey to becoming an iconic sports figure.
