The great Italian luxury fashion houses are not known for enthusiastically supporting one another.
Last night, however, Milan Fashion Week closed with an unprecedented exchange between Fendi and Versace, both names to make any fashionista automatically genuflect.
Rather than a collaboration, they insisted, it was a 'creative dialogue,' which saw chief Fendi designer Kim Jones and Donatella Versace interpreting a new SS/22 collection for each other's labels.
The show featured supermodels from the past and present, including Kate Moss, Naomi Campbell, Winnie Harlow, Amber Valetta, Gigi Hadid and Kristen McMenamy.
The handwritten invitation promised 'something special', and that's what was delivered.

The connection was first teased by Kim Kardashian in an instagram photo earlier this year, showing herself with Kim Jones and Donatella Versace. It wasn't revealed until much later that the garlanded designers had given each other permission to dig through the archives and put their own spin on a new collection.
The celebrity-studded audience were first treated to Versace's take on Fendi, with the classic Medusa print on wrapped silk, FENDACE logo belts, swimsuits and gold jewellery as well as new spin on the baguette bag.
Fendi's overhaul of Versace offered bright pink, pencil skirts, sequinned scarves and a pink chainmail dress showcasing the 'F', as well as re-designing the famous Versace safety pin look made unforgettable by Elizabeth Hurley, who was seated on the front row.
Other attendees included Dua Lipa, Addison Rae and Iris Law, model daughter of Jude Law and Sadie Frost. The next generation were very much in attendance, with Damian Hurley, 19, model son of Elizabeth Hurley, and Lila Grace Moss Hack, Kate Moss's model daughter, joining their famous parents.
Guests pulled out all the sartorial stops - here are the fashion highlights.
